2022 Week 8 Dynasty Recap: 3, 2, 1, Action!

2022 Week 8 Dynasty Recap: 3, 2, 1, Action!

3 is for the number of upsets we saw this week. 2 is for the number of weeks it could take for three of the playoff spots to be locked up. 1 is for Ryan who sits alone in the race for the #1 pick (and with it the free choice between Bijan Robinson, Blake Corum, Zach Charbonnnet…the list is pretty extensive for next year’s talent). Here are your week 8 results:

Space Rangers 118.61 over Fear Itself 83.31

Hats off to Nathan for becoming the first team to win more than 5 games to open the season. He made it all the way to week 8 before finally falling. The win gives Curt and I a chance at taking the division. Of course, if Nathan can win his final two division games (week 9 vs Ryan and 10 vs Simon) he could guarantee that Curt and/or I would have to finish with a better record than him in order to win the division. As far as the game itself went, I need to remember to give A.J. Brown (28.8 points) a big hug the next time I see him, he was absolutely the key to me winning this game.

Shenron’s Wish 114.99 over Ferocious Felines 88.37

What a huge win for Bryar. It’s his team’s best showing of the season, it ended his four game losing streak and it gives him a fighting chance at a playoff spot. Now that he’s back, D-Hop (20.7) continues to prove what a valuable asset he is for Shenron’s Wish, and Jaylen Waddle (21.3) continues to be a growing monster in his second season. The loss doesn’t hurt Fred’s position, he maintains control of the 6th seed, but it does open the door back up for Simon, Bryar, Alex and even Ryan if he can turn things around. Derrick Henry’s 200 yard, 2 touchdown effort accounted for a quarter of Fred’s points and sadly was in vain.

Kade’s Dawgs 109.19 over Fantasy Fairies 95.95

Curt drafted Pollard back in our initial fantasy draft and has hung onto him this entire time. It has randomly paid off for him too, and with Zeke out it paid dividends once again. Pollard (25.85) led Kade’s Dawgs to victory, despite Ryan’s Monday night surge to try and pull off the upset. Side note, not including weeks actually started, Ryan has the #2 (Burrow) and #3 (Hurts) QBs right now, too bad he can’t start them every week.

Noobmaster69 121.26 over Michael Style 92.00

Simon’s biggest game EVER. There is the aspect of the win giving him a firm hold on 7th place and tying him with Fred who currently holds the 6th seed, while also gaining significant ground in the points tiebreaker. But I’m specifically referring to this being the most points Simon has ever scored in a game. Prior to this season his highest score was 105.24, he’s broken that three times this year and with this game he officially becomes the 7th team in the league to score 120+ in a week. He had five players score double-digits, led by the Offensive Player of the Week, Alvin Kamara (30.4). For Alex, it’s gotta feel good seeing the Bears finally figure out a formula that works for Fields, even if the burn from a loss stings a bit more.

ay_Bilat 126.83 over NUKEM 88.57

This marks three straight weeks of below 90 points for NUKEM. Ekeler on bye didn’t help, but that’s not the core of the problem. A lot of it resides in Jonathan Taylor’s poor play this season, as well as the little to no effort he’s been getting from his WR2 spot. Andrews’ injury isn’t helping either. When this team is playing at 100% it’s one of the most formidable in the league, but that’s just not what we’re seeing right now. Going against a team with a core like Hill, CMC and Chubb is going to make things look even worse. It could have been a bigger blowout, but Trey must’ve forgotten to replace his injured players (to his credit Koramoah wasn’t ruled out until Monday night, but Chase was out Friday, so no excuse there Trey!).

But wait, there’s more!!! Here is the current draft order as it sits right now. The * denotes playoff spots. Tie breakers for non-playoff teams will be determined by regular season head-to-head results, with the loser getting the better pick. In the event of a three-way tie, or an instance of an even 1-1 split on the season, the tie breaker will be points scored, with the team who had the least points scored getting the better pick.

1)     Fantasy Fairies – Coach Ryan (1-7)

2)     Shenron’s Wish – Coach Bryar (2-6)

3)     Michael Style – Coach Alex (2-6)

4)     Noobmaster69 – Coach Simon (3-5)

5)     *Ferocious Felines – Coach Fred (3-5)

6)     *Kade’s Dawgs – Coach Curt (5-3)

7)     *NUKEM – Coach Rob (5-3)

8)     *Space Rangers – Coach Lance (6-2)

9)     *ay_Bilat – Coach Trey (6-2)

10)  * Fear Itself – Coach Nathan (7-1)

Here’s a look ahead at next week:

Fear Itself (7-1) vs Fantasy Fairies (1-7)

Nathan’s win streak is over, time to start a new one right? He took care of Ryan easily enough back in week 4, but he also hasn’t scored over 90 since week 6, perhaps Ryan can take advantage of his opponent’s recent stretch of bad performances.

ay_Bilat (6-2) vs Kade’s Dawgs (5-3)

Curt got the win three weeks ago, but Trey owns the series 4-2. Trey has also had the pedal to the floor pretty much all season while Curt’s team has done a hot and cold thing. If that trend continues this may be a bad week for Kade’s Dawgs.

Space Rangers (6-2) vs Noobmaster69 (3-5)

Simon always plays me tough. I’m up 5-4 in our series thanks to a win back in week 1, but I never take these matchups lightly. We’re both coming off our best scoring weeks in this league, so it will be interesting to see how we follow that up.

NUKEM (5-3) vs Ferocious Felines (3-5)

Pastor Dad is currently up 6-2 in this series, so maybe a matchup with the Ferocious Felines is just what the doctor ordered to get things back on track. A win would help distance himself from the pack that is fighting for 6th place, a loss would give Fred an outside shot at moving up a few spots in the playoff race.

Shenron’s Wish (2-6) vs Michael Style (2-6)

At the end of this week one of these teams will be looking at the playoffs with a hunger in their eyes, while the other will have one foot out the door of the bubble. Bryar leads the series 4-3. Alex got the win back in week 1, but Alex is also on a 6 game losing streak. This is going to be an exciting matchup regardless of the records of the team’s competing in it.

That’s all for this week, good luck to you all in week 9!
