2022 Week 9 Dynasty Recap: This. Just. Got. Interesting!
My win and Nathan’s loss just reopened up the East! Trey and Pastor Dad both had big weeks once again making it look like the West will be a fun race to the end. Plus, Trey, Nathan and myself are all 7-2, with Pastor Dad at 6-3 which makes it a pretty close race for the #1 seed. AND Simon and Fred lost, while Alex and Ryan won making it 5 teams sitting at either 2 or 3 wins all fighting for the 6th seed, or maybe the #1 pick…I can’t really tell. Here are your week 9 results:
Michael Style 91.96 over Shenron’s Wish 88.35
Game of the week? Certainly was the closest with a heartbreaking ending. Justin Fields’ Sunday heroics garnered him 28.36 points, a second place finish for Player of the Week honors, and gave his team the lead. But Bryar still had a shot on Monday night, down by 4.86 points with Pete Werner left. Werner would be carted off the field in the third quarter after posting just 1.25 points of what was needed and Bryar’s hopes for victory were ripped away.
Fantasy Fairies 79.51 over Fear Itself 70.60
The upset of the century! And Ryan used the savviest pickup of the week, Matt Judon (18.50), as the key to putting himself in position for a Monday night victory party. Marlon Humphrey (10.75) needed a little under 2 points on Monday night to get the win, and well, he went above and beyond. Nathan was let down by a pair of poor performances from a couple of Packers (Jones and Doubs) that were facing the worst defense in the NFL, though Doubs did get hurt early. That and the Nyheim Hines addition last Wednesday also killed him on Sunday.
ay_Bilat 120.77 over Kade’s Dawgs 111.34
Wanna talk about heartbreaking? How about Joe Mixon’s 42.55 point, Player of the Week effort, most points in regular season league history (Kamara had 46 in the consolation championship game of 2020), but his massive performance wasn’t enough to get the win. Trey had two (Mahomes and Adams) score over 20 with another four going for over 10. Meanwhile, Kupp and Tua were the only Dawgs to put forth real effort alongside Mixon.
NUKEM 116.40 over Ferocious Felines 106.18
Both of these teams had been going through a rough patch, but they showed up big against each other. Fred was led by Defensive Player of the week, Zaven Collins (18.75), and King Henry (17.75). Josh Jacobs picked the wrong week to return to a normal level, and a couple of dud performances from some defenders buried him as well. Pastor Dad was saying Jonathan Taylor who? After watching Etienne and Ekeler combine for 37.35 points. That was the spark he’s been needing.
Space Rangers 117.21 over Noobmaster69 75.52
Sorry Simon, running up the score on Monday night wasn’t personal, I just needed to gain ground back on the score differential between Nathan and me, and thanks to Drake I was able to pull all the way back to within three points! I don’t want to ignore Kenneth Walker’s (19.95) team leading performance either, he’s really picking up steam, and is a big reason why my team didn’t just fall apart after losing Javonte Williams for the season and seeing Lamar Jackson go back to how he’s played the last two years. It seems Simon’s team may have been a little burnt out after that huge outing they had last week. Moore, Diggs, Fournette, Kamara and Hubbard all posted double-digits in the win last week, and all fell below 10 points in this one. Sauce Garner putting up 10.55 helped launch him up toward the top of the DROY race though!
Here’s a look ahead at next week:
ay_Bilat (7-2) vs Ferocious Felines (3-6)
Trey leads the series 6-3. A win for Trey would put him one game away from securing the best divisional record for the West. A win for Fred would also go a long way since he has the second hardest schedule remaining with three of his final five teams (Trey included) currently at 7 wins.
Fear Itself (7-2) vs Noobmaster69 (3-6)
Simon has the easiest schedule remaining with this game against his brother being the hardest game left. He’s down 5-2 to Nathan in their series, but Nathan just had his worst week (points wise) of the season for the third consecutive week, so Simon could make this very interesting.
Space Rangers (7-2) vs Kade’s Dawgs (5-4)
I’m currently on a four game win streak which (sadly) ties my longest win streak ever in this league. My last loss was in week five to none other than Curt, who cut my lead in the series to 4-3. A win for either of us would go a long way in the race for the East.
NUKEM (6-3) vs Michael Style (3-6)
Alex has the hardest schedule remaining and it includes four teams with winning records right now. He also is down 6-1 against Pastor Dad, so things are really against him this week. Pastor Dad needs this win to keep pace with Trey for the West and with me/Nathan for the 3rd seed.
Shenron’s Wish (2-7) vs Fantasy Fairies (2-7)
Bryar has the privilege of being Ryan’s first ever win in the league and it came just four weeks ago. Given the level of competition Fred, Simon and Alex are facing this week, a win here could put the winner into a four-way tie for the 6th seed (something I’m pretty sure we have yet to see in this league’s short existence). A loss will give the losing team a loose grip on the #1 pick. So by that logic I’m certain we will see our first ever tie.
That’s all for this week, good luck to you all in week 10!
