2023 Week 12 Dynasty Recap: Under Pressure

There are only three teams locked into the playoffs right now, and only one team that has locked in a first round bye. This week had a few interesting outcomes that could have a season-ending impact. Is everyone else feeling the heat? Here are your week 12 results:

Noobmaster69 85.49 over Ferocious Felines 83.93

Simon hung on for dear life! Fred needed 5.72 points out of Alexander Mattison on Monday night, but he only got 4.15. Definitely a what if week for Fred, what if he started Higbee over Schultz, or Moore over Mattison? Always worse to lose by a point than to lose by 20. Simon’s #1 and #2 picks led him to victory! Pacheco (his first round pick) scored 18.95, and Flowers scored 17.60 which is the breakout week he’s been waiting for!!

ay_Bilat 105.31 over Fear Itself 99.08

CMC kept himself in the MVP race and led the top half of Trey’s team to victory (Trey had five players score double-digits and five score under 8). Josh Allen, one of CMC’s main competitors for MVP, took home Player of the Week honors with his 27.83 points. It was exactly the kind of performance Allen needed to extend his lead just before his bye week.

Fantasy Fairies 93.15 over Space Rangers 85.93

I needed Hockenson to have his second best performance of the season in order to beat Ryan this week. A late fourth quarter touchdown gave me a sliver of hope, but those hopes were dashed on their next drive with Minnesota’s abysmal attempt to kill time. Jalen Hurts threw the Fairies on his back and marched them to the finish line. His 26.25 points earned him runner-up for PotW, and kept him firmly in the MVP race.

Kade’s Dawgs 104.53 over Shenron’s Wish 89.29

This was Bryar’s best team performance since week 4, his team really gave it their all to keep from losing the Kade’s Dawgs again, but it wasn’t enough. Kyren Williams (25.20) was back for the first time since week 6, and he did his best to carry the dead weight. C.J. Stroud led the way for Curt, and in doing so he launched himself into the top ten for OROY. It’s too little too late for him to make a run at the award, but getting into the top 5 isn’t completely out of the question if he keeps this up.

Michael Style 106.17 over NUKEM 71.08

In the past three weeks Michael Style has taken on the Dory mantra, but with a twist, if you listen closely on a Sunday afternoon you can hear “just keep scoring, just keep scoring, just keep scoring, scoring, scoring,” being chanted. This was Alex’s third straight week scoring over 95 points, and on the opposite end, this was Pastor Dad’s fourth straight week scoring under 75 points. That scoring streak for NUKEM coincides with Travis Etienne’s bye week and slump, and the rest of the team hasn’t stepped up in his stead. Perhaps a Justin Jefferson return in week 14 well help him to end on a high note.

Playoff Outlook:

1st seed: Fear Itself (Y)

Coach: Nathan

Record: 9-3

Remaining opponents: Michael Style (8-4), NUKEM (3-9)

Outlook: Thanks to my loss Nathan has officially won the East for the fourth straight season. That means he has a first round bye locked up too. He can clinch the 1 seed with a win this week and a Trey loss.

2nd seed: Michael Style (X)

Coach: Alex

Record: 8-4

Remaining opponents: Fear Itself (9-3), Noobmaster69 (4-8)

Outlook: Playoff spot is locked up. For now, he’s done everything he can to keep hold of the lead in the West. Win both games and he wins the West. He could lock it up this week if he wins and Trey loses.

3rd seed: ay_Bilat (X)

Coach: Trey

Record: 8-4

Remaining opponents: Kade’s Dawgs (7-5), Space Rangers (7-5)

Outlook: Playoff spot is locked up. It’s getting harder and harder for him to take back the West. At this point he either needs to win out and have Alex lose one game, or he needs to win one game and have Alex lose out.

4th seed: Fantasy Fairies

Coach: Ryan

Record: 7-5

Remaining opponents: Ferocious Felines (5-7), Shenron’s Wish (2-10)

Outlook: His win over me bumps him up to the 4thseed and drops me to the 6th. A win for Ryan this week would officially clinch a playoff spot for him, Curt and me. A loss would bring it down to the final week; however, Ryan currently holds a 38 point lead on Fred, 39 on Curt and 53 on me, so that tiebreaker definitely favors him.

5th Seed: Kade’s Dawgs

Coach: Curt

Record: 7-5

Remaining opponents: ay_Bilat (8-4), Ferocious Felines (5-7)

Outlook: As mentioned above, a Ryan win locks up a playoff berth for him. But he can only control what’s in front of him, so win either of his final games and he’s in.

6th seed: Space Rangers

Coach: Lance

Record: 7-5

Remaining opponents: Shenron’s Wish (2-10), ay_Bilat (8-4)

Outlook: Same deal as Curt.

Name: Ferocious Felines

Coach: Fred

Record: 5-7

Remaining opponents: Fantasy Fairies (7-5), Kade’s Dawgs (7-5)

Outlook: Win out is step one, and then he needs either Ryan, myself or Curt to lose out. All three of us could theoretically lose out, which would open the door up even more. Since Ryan is the only one of the three that holds the point tiebreaker over Fred, his best bet is for Curt or me to lose out, with me being the highest team on that wish list since he’s got a 15 point lead on me and only a 1 point lead on Curt.

Name: Noobmaster69

Coach: Simon

Record: 4-8

Remaining opponents: NUKEM (3-9), Michael Style (8-4)

Outlook: Well, you did what you could last week, but Bryar and I let you down, so your playoff hopes are done. You can still potentially play spoiler for Alex if he and Trey enter week 14 still tied.

Name: NUKEM

Coach: Rob

Record: 3-9

Remaining opponents: Noobmaster69 (4-8), Fear Itself (9-3)

Outlook: Playoffs are out of the question now, and the only real spoiler position he’s in is to possibly keep Nathan from getting the one seed provided Alex beats Nathan this week and/or Trey wins this week. The actual big thing hanging over him is his matchup this week, a loss would lock up a top two pick for him and for Bryar. Also, he needs to monitor Bryar’s final two games because he holds the head to head tiebreaker with Bryar, so should they both finish with the same record the #1 pick would be his.

Name: Shenron’s Wish

Coach: Bryar

Record: 2-10

Remaining opponents: Space Rangers (7-5), Fantasy Fairies (7-5)

Outlook: Coming off his best performance in weeks, can he use that momentum to mess up Ryan’s or my playoff plans down the stretch?

Here’s a look ahead at next week:

Fear Itself (9-3) vs Michael Style (8-4)

Last week Curt brought his record against Bryar to 6-0, this first to accomplish that, this week Nathan can be the second to do so as he’s currently up 5-0 in this series. Talk about a big pressure situation for Alex.

ay_Bilat (8-4) vs Kade’s Dawgs (7-5)

Trey leads this series 5-2. He is the only coach that has more than a one game lead on Curt. Both teams are feeling the pressure in this one, a win for Curt sends him to the playoffs, a win for Trey keeps his hopes of winning the West alive.

Fantasy Fairies (7-5) vs Ferocious Felines (5-7)

Fred won their only matchup last season so he leads the series 1-0. Nobody is under more pressure this week than Fred, a loss would knock him out of the playoffs for the first time in this league’s history.

Space Rangers (7-5) vs Shenron’s Wish (2-10)

Bryar leads our series 3-2. This is one of two series left that Bryar has a winning record in.

Noobmaster69 (4-8) vs NUKEM (3-9)

Pastor Dad leads the series 4-1. Thanks to the draft, even this game has some fun implications at stake.

That’s all for this week, good luck to you all in week 13!
