2023 Week 13 Dynasty Recap: West is Best
Back in week 6 I wrote about how there are three weeks a year that every game is cross-division. This was another one of those weeks and the West got their revenge, winning 4 out of the 5 matchups this go around. The East is still up in overall cross-division record this year at 17-10, and next week is the third and final all cross-division week. Here are your week 13 results:
Michael Style 85.55 over Fear Itself 80.04
All I have to say is SAM LA-PORT-A! The 17.5 points the rookie Tight End put up helped Alex out to the early lead, and helped put LaPorta in a position to move up in the top five Tight End rankings and in the Rookie of the Year race. Deebo Samuel’s 26.90 points in the late afternoon games gave Nathan a shot heading into Sunday night, but Christian Watson’s two touchdown performance lifted Alex to the win.
Noobmaster69 77.41 over NUKEM 71.08
This game featured four players with 0 points, and another with less than 1 point. It also featured big games by Kamara, Engram, Pacheco, Goff, Stafford, Sutton, Etienne and Pittman. That’s par for the course for these two. It was Engram’s best game of the season that pushed Simon through on Monday night.
ay_Bilat 106.11 over Kade’s Dawgs 94.95
It looked like Curt had a good shot at winning this one, but then we got to see Cincy’s game plan in action on Monday night, funnel the pass game through Chase cause nobody else matters, and that sealed the win for Trey. Tyreek Hill continued his monster season and at least put himself in a position to try and steal away the MVP in the final week. Curt started a great team, which will make it hurt all the more that he left Joe Mixon and his 20.85 points on the bench.
Shenron’s Wish 93.42 over Space Rangers 45.06
I only had two players score more than 6 points, and somehow this still wasn’t the worst game our league has seen this season. It’s the little things, I guess. It was, however, the worst game I’ve had in league history. I also lost my best Receiver with the Tank Dell injury, so that’s fun. Bryar ended his losing streak at 5! Nico Collins went absolutely nuts, and the Nacua-Kyren 1-2 Rams punch put in work once again. Atlanta’s defense was the perfect pickup for the week. Russell Wilson’s bye week fill-in was the cherry on top.
Ferocious Felines 128.89 over Fantasy Fairies 56.34
Fred scored 74.25 points on Thursday night. He had Ryan beat before Friday even started. But he didn’t stop there, Derrick Henry and De’Von Achane also made sure to kick that dead horse repeatedly on Sunday. DK Metcalf’s 27.70 points on Thursday night were enough to earn him Player of the Week honors! Ryan, I feel your pain, but if your team was going to have a down week this was a good week for it, since outscoring Fred would’ve been incredibly difficult and it’s not the postseason. Side note, not starting Hurts, hurt his chances at MVP.
Playoff Outlook:
1st seed: Fear Itself (Y)
Coach: Nathan
Record: 9-4
Remaining opponents: NUKEM (3-10)
Outlook: Win and he gets the #1 seed, lose and he still gets it if Alex and Trey both lose.
2nd seed: Michael Style (X)
Coach: Alex
Record: 9-4
Remaining opponents: Noobmaster69 (5-8)
Outlook: A win or a loss by Trey lands him his first West title. A win and a Nathan loss gets him the #1 seed.
3rd seed: ay_Bilat (X)
Coach: Trey
Record: 9-4
Remaining opponents: Space Rangers (7-6)
Outlook: A win and an Alex loss gets him the West back and a first round bye. A win, an Alex loss and a Nathan loss gets him the #1 seed. Regardless of who loses and who wins, he and Alex are guaranteed to be no lower than this 3 seed.
4th seed: Fantasy Fairies
Coach: Ryan
Record: 7-6
Remaining opponents: Shenron’s Wish (3-10)
Outlook: And here is where the real fun starts. That loss was brutal because it opens up the door for Ryan to miss the playoffs now. A win, or a Fred loss will guarantee him a spot in the playoffs. If he loses and Fred wins then he will need to maintain his narrow point lead on Curt (0.38), or he needs me to lose and he needs to maintain his point lead on me (64.45).
5th Seed: Kade’s Dawgs
Coach: Curt
Record: 7-6
Remaining opponents: Ferocious Felines (6-7)
Outlook: Win and he, Ryan and I are all in. Lose and he’ll either need Ryan or me to lose, and he’ll need to pass Ryan in points or maintain his point lead on me (64.07).
6th seed: Space Rangers
Coach: Lance
Record: 7-6
Remaining opponent: ay_Bilat (9-4)
Outlook: Whelp, that was about as embarrassing a loss as it gets. Win and I’m in. Lose and I deserve what’s coming to me; a four game losing streak is no way to enter the playoffs.
Name: Ferocious Felines
Coach: Fred
Record: 6-7
Remaining opponent: Kade’s Dawgs (7-6)
Outlook: Win and he’s in, lose and he’s out.
Name: Noobmaster69
Coach: Simon
Record: 5-8
Remaining opponent: Michael Style (9-4)
Outlook: A win would ruin Alex’s chance at the #1 seed. He can’t get up into the top two picks now, but if he wins and Fred loses, he will fall to the #4 pick.
Name: Shenron’s Wish
Coach: Bryar
Record: 3-10
Remaining opponent: Fantasy Fairies (7-6)
Outlook: And just like that, Bryar can play a big time spoiler. He beats Ryan and the rest of the things I mentioned in Ryan’s section above don’t happen, Ryan will be out of the playoffs, ruining his bid to take that franchise back to their first playoff since year 1.
Name: NUKEM
Coach: Rob
Record: 3-10
Remaining opponent: Fear Itself (9-4)
Outlook: A win could prevent Nathan from getting the #1 seed. A loss locks up the #1 pick.
Here’s a look ahead at next week:
ay_Bilat (9-4) vs Space Rangers (7-6)
Trey is up 5-1 on me. The last time we played each other in the final week of a season my playoff hopes were also on the line (2020). Trey beat me and I missed the playoffs, interestingly enough it was Fred who made it in as the 6 seed that season and he went on to win the championship.
Michael Style (9-4) vs Noobmaster (5-8)
Simon is up 6-2 in the series, and Alex is the only coach that Simon has a winning record against. Simon also won the last two games these two played. Side note, Alex has won 5 straight games, which is his new personal longest win streak, and is the longest active win streak in the league.
Fear Itself (9-4) vs NUKEM (3-10)
Nathan leads the series 6-1, and he has a 4 game win streak in the series. Added drama, a loss here for Pastor Dad would give him 6 straight losses, which would be the longest losing streak he’s had.
Kade’s Dawgs (7-6) vs Ferocious Felines (6-7)
Fred leads the series 4-3. These two teams, along with Trey, are the only ones to have made the playoffs every year to date, so it’s fitting that there’s a chance one of them ends the other’s streak. A win by Curt would do that outright, a win by Fred would need a little extra help to keep Curt out.
Fantasy Fairies (7-6) vs Shenron’s Wish (3-10)
Ryan is up 3-0 in this series, which is by far the best matchup Ryan has going in his short stint in the league.
That’s all for this week, good luck to you all in week 14!
