2023 Week 14 Dynasty Recap: The Dust Settles
Coming into this week there was only ONE postseason position that was set. Simon was guaranteed to be the 2 seed in the consolation bracket. Everything else was still up for grabs, making this the most exciting final week in our dynasty league’s history. Plus, NONE of the draft positions were locked up. What a 5th season we’ve had! I got to see Chris Berman’s “Fastest 3 Minutes” yesterday, so in Chris Berman(ish) fashion, here are your week 14 results:
Fear Itself 98.46 over NUKEM 97.46
Deebo Samuel (23.00) took home Player of the Week honors, but it was the Monday night pickup of Patrick Taylor that allowed Nathan to squeak by Pastor Dad. With how Alex’s and Trey’s games finished up, Nathan had the #1 seed locked up regardless, but this win allowed him to finish with best record by himself.
Space Rangers 79.05 over ay_Bilat 70.97
Going into Monday night we had almost identical point totals and a David v Goliath situation going on with my rookie Receiver, Jayden Reed, taking on the #1 WR in the league, Tyreek Hill. Hill went down early on with an ankle injury missing the middle portion of his game, while Reed finished as my highest scorer and carried me into the playoffs!
Noobmaster69 101.12 over Michael Style 80.86
Alex needed to win to take home his first division title, but Simon, running the 2011 Patriots offense, had other plans. Evan Engram and David Njoku combined for 41.80 points, that’s more than his entire team scored in week 1! Fortunately for Alex, I took down Trey…you’re welcome!
Shenron’s Wish 86.97 over Fantasy Fairies 59.39
Ryan came into the week needing to not lose to one of the worst teams in the league in order to get into the playoffs or to just not blow it in points, but this wasn’t a fairy tale ending. Lamar Jackson said “whoop,” spun around to the left, cut up field and burned the Fairies to a crisp.
Ferocious Felines 107.98 over Kade’s Dawgs 70.90
Two teams that had yet to miss the playoffs fighting to keep that streak alive? Yep, this game had “one team in, one team out” written all over it. Fred’s hot streak continued on his way to securing a playoff spot, while Curt watched Miami football on Monday night to see if he could take the points tiebreaker with Ryan. He edged him out by 11 points, and he owes Bryar big time.
But wait, there’s more!!! Here is the current draft order as it sits right now. The * denotes playoff spots. Tie breakers are determined by regular season head-to-head results, with the loser getting the better pick. In the event of a three-way tie, or an instance of an even 1-1 split on the season, the tie breaker will be points scored, with the team who had the least points scored getting the better pick.
1) NUKEM – Coach Rob (3-11)
2) Shenron’s Wish – Coach Bryar (4-10)
3) Noobmaster69 – Coach Simon (6-8)
4) Fantasy Fairies – Coach Ryan (7-7)
5) *Kade’s Dawgs – Coach Curt (7-7)
6) *Ferocious Felines – Coach Fred (7-7)
7) *Space Rangers – Coach Lance (8-6)
8) *ay_Bilat – Coach Trey (9-5)
9) *Michael Style – Coach Alex (9-5)
10) *Fear Itself – Coach Nathan (10-4)
Here’s a look ahead at next week:
3 ay_Bilat (9-5) vs 6 Kade’s Dawgs (7-7)
Trey leads the series 6-2. This will be the third time they’ve met in the postseason. The first time was in the season 1 championship, Trey took care of business in that one. The second time was in the season 2, which Curt won easily enough. Which one will pull it out this go around?
4 Space Rangers (8-6) vs 5 Ferocious Felines (7-7)
Head to head I’m up 4-3. We’ve only met once before in the playoffs. That was year 1, in the wildcard round and I won by 22. Coincidentally, I was the 4 seed that year and Fred was the 5, I went 8-5 that year and Fred went 6-7. However, this time Fred is averaging way more PPG than I am, so we’ll see how this goes…
And since there’s only two games for next week, here are some fun stats to keep an eye on:
-The highest scoring team (ay_Bilat) has never won the championship. But they have finished second in each of the last two years.
-Yahoo’s pick to finish first in the league (ay_Bilat) has never won the championship. Their highest finish is third place, two years ago, which is also the only year they ever made it past the first round of the playoffs.
-The 1 and the 2 seeds have made the championship every year but one. The one season they didn’t was year 2, and that one featured the 5 vs the 6 seed. So that means the 3 seed (ay_Bilat) and the 4 seed (Space Rangers) have never made the championship.
-The lowest scoring team to make the playoffs in each season (Michael Style) has lost in the opening round in every year except one, last year. Last year Kade’s Dawgs ended up losing in the 3rd place game. Michael Style has a first round bye, so he’s at least guaranteed a top 4 finish.
-No team that has made the championship entered the playoffs having won more than two games straight, or lost more than 1 game straight. Curt is the only one to fall into that category this year, he enters the playoffs having lost his last two.
All this to say if Trey wins it, he’s going to bring an end to a lot of these. That’s all for this week, good luck to you all in the playoffs!
