2023 Week 4 Dynasty Recap: Symmetry

2023 Week 4 Dynasty Recap: Symmetry

Either the league as a whole is starting to even out, or we’re in for a letdown over the course of the next 10 weeks. Prior to this season the highest total of teams we had at .500 after week 4 was four. We have six 2-2 teams this year, and everyone has at least one loss and one win. Oh, and this is the earliest we’ve had every undefeated team bow out. Here are your week 4 results:

Fantasy Fairies 80.03 over Space Rangers 78.18

Ryan, you’ve just done something this team hadn’t done in its previous four seasons, even with the other two coaches before you…you started the season 2-2. My only question is, as a Giants fan, does it hurt that the Cowboys defense is a big part of that start? This was an exciting matchup that ended with Walker running the ball twice within the 15 yard line late in the fourth quarter of Monday night’s game, if only he had broken free!

NUKEM 93.43 over ay_Bilat 84.01

The only other matchup that had Monday night hanging over it. But the Giants let Trey down and he was never able to get it close enough to raise Pastor Dad’s blood pressure. It seems having the Player of the Week is in fact a bad thing since that player once again was on the losing team, this time it was Christian McCaffrey (36.35).

Fear Itself 85.60 over Noobmaster69 66.90

Simon got double-digit points out of three players; Nathan had two hit that mark. Nathan had 5 players score under 5 points; Simon only had three. BUT Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs connected on 3 touchdowns and combined for 78% (52.25 points) of what Simon’s entire team scored. For those who forgot, Diggs was a part of that massive trade between these two last season. Part of what Simon got in return was Allen Lazard, the now injured Mike Williams, and two picks that he used on Pacheco and Flowers. Lazard and Pacheco were a big part of Simon’s output this week, but it wasn’t the 27 points Diggs put up.

Michael Style 78.55 over Kade’s Dawgs 55.24

Curt’s team has gone from back to back 90+ point games, to just under 80 last week and now this. Needless to say, Cooper Kupp’s return cannot come soon enough. Michael Style is finally showing signs of life! Fields easily had his best game of the season, St. Brown got back to double-digits, and James Cook found the end zone. Now he just needs his team to put it altogether at the same time.

Ferocious Felines 138.94 over Shenron’s Wish 105.36

This was the second highest scoring game in league history, highest since week five of our first season. The two teams had a combined 12 players in double-digits! Three of the six highest scoring players in the game were rookies (Richardson, Achane and Nacua)! A nice shimmer of light for both teams’ futures. Shockingly, somehow both teams left 12+ points on their benches, which would have shattered the record for highest scoring game. Even in the loss the only thing Bryar has to be disappointed about is that he didn’t get to play any other team in the league this week.

Tie breakers for non-playoff teams will be determined by regular season head-to-head results, with the loser getting the better pick. In the event of a three-way tie, or an instance of an even 1-1 split on the season, the tie breaker will be points scored, with the team who had the least points scored getting the better pick.

1) Noobmaster69 – Coach Simon (1-3)

2) Shenron’s Wish – Coach Bryar (1-3)

3) Kade’s Dawgs – Coach Curt (2-2)

4) Michael Style – Coach Alex (2-2)

5) *Space Rangers – Coach Lance (2-2)

6) *Fantasy Fairies – Coach Ryan (2-2)

7) *Ferocious Felines – Coach Fred (2-2)

8) *NUKEM – Coach Rob (2-2)

9) * Fear Itself – Coach Nathan (3-1)

10) *ay_Bilat – Coach Trey (3-1)

Here’s a look ahead at next week:

ay_Bilat (3-1) vs Ferocious Felines (2-2)

Trey leads the series 7-4. Fred has made the playoffs in all four years and even won a championship, but he hasn't been higher than a 5 seed and Trey is a big reason why. A win here could start to swing momentum in his favor and give him an early shot at getting to the top of the West.

Fear Itself (3-1) vs Shenron’s Wish (1-3)

Nathan leads the series 3-2 and he’s won each of the last three times they’ve faced each other. Last season Nathan won by 12, but both teams scored over 100 points, and two years ago Nathan won by less than two. I expect we’ll see some more excitement this year.

NUKEM (2-2) vs Michael Style (2-2)

This series has been completely one sided, Pastor Dad is up 7-1. Both teams have sandwiched wins around two losses to open the season, but NUKEM has done it in a more convincing fashion. So, if Alex is going to get his second win, he’s going to need his team to far outplay what they’ve done so far. Also, Alex’s one win was week 8 of season 1.

Space Rangers (2-2) vs Kade’s Dawgs (2-2)

An old rivalry going back to 2002, the Good, the Bad and the Ugly league, and my first year playing fantasy football. We’ve definitely had some great matchups across the years, and in this league, it’s been a close series with Curt leading 5-4. Last year Curt swept me, including a win in the playoffs, in order to take the lead in our series. I’d like to return the favor.

Fantasy Fairies (2-2) vs Noobmaster69 (1-3)

Thanks to the consolation bracket these two played three times last year with Simon winning two of the matchups. Simon will need that series momentum, because a loss would put him down to 1-3 in division and potentially drop him two games behind the pack in the wildcard race early.

That’s all for this week, good luck to you all in week 5!
