2023 Week 7 Dynasty Recap: Blowouts Abound and the Magical Number 50

Trey is the first coach to hit 50 wins! And it came in the same week Belichick got to 300 regular season wins…coincidence? I think not. This week was also completely one sided in every game, every win was by double-digits and every losing team would have lost against every winning team. We’re also in a weird place record wise. It’s a four team race for the #1 pick and all four current non-playoff teams are two games back from the four teams sitting in the 3^rd-6^thseed range. It’s definitely an interesting fifth season for us. Here are your week 7 results:

Kade’s Dawgs 86.97 over Noobmaster69 74.48

Kade’s Dawgs finally rebounded like he needed them to! And three of his top four scorers were his Tight End, Kicker and defense, just like he planned it!! Simon had three players from his rebuilt RB group score 11+. That’s the kind of output you look for when you invest heavily in a position, now he just needs it consistently and he needs a few other players to step up too.

Shenron’s Wish 80.09 over NUKEM 65.54

The trade pays off! Lamar Jackson and Dallas Goedert combined for 35.29 points, with Lamar taking home Player of the Week honors with his 22.94 points. Etienne continued his explosion with his third straight week of 17+ points. Unfortunately, his streak has coincided with a three game losing streak for NUKEM. The rest of that team definitely needs to match Etienne’s drive.

Fear Itself 91.95 over Space Rangers 68.83

Well, this loss is going to make my chances of winning the East extremely difficult. Hopefully a headache doesn’t cause my first overall pick from sticking me with another 0.15 point performance again later on. Josh Allen bounced back from last week with 18.15 points, and the #2 overall pick, Jahmyr Gibbs, had his best game of the season with 16.8 points. Perhaps Detroit will continue to use him when Montgomery returns from his injury.

Michael Style 88.10 over Ferocious Felines 59.82

It was a touchdown party for Alex with Taylor, Robinson, Harris and Cook all scoring. Even Ridder punched in a rushing touchdown. He only had one player below 5 points, it was easily his team’s best performance. Rivalry games will bring that out sometimes. It did not have that effect on Fred’s team though, as this was easily his team’s worst game of the season. With Henry and Lamb on bye he just didn’t get good output from their replacements, and his stars (Jacobs and Moore) didn’t perform well either.

The Mahomes to Kelce connection accounted for 38.7% of Trey’s production. Tyreek and CMC accounted for 30.7% of his team’s production. That means the rest of his team combined for less than CMC and Tyreek (30.6%). And really, McCaffrey’s Monday night performance was just the cherry on top, this game was over before then. A.J. Brown had a very good outing in his first game with the Fantasy Fairies. The newly formed Hurts to Brown connection accounted for 51.4% of Ryan’s production. Unfortunately, he didn’t have a Tyreek and CMC to follow that up.

For fun, I decided to do a mid-season Mock draft. The order is where we’d be picking if the season ended today. The prospects are based on five mocks and two prospect rankings I looked through. And the picks are based on current production at each position for each team, age of each team’s top performers, recent player trends and injuries:

1) Noobmaster69: WR Marvin Harrison (Ohio State) – Zay Flowers is starting to come along nicely for Simon, but after Mike Williams’ injury his Receiving corps has been largely disappointing. Marvin Harrison is a potential Justin Jefferson/Ja’Marr Chase type of rookie, and is one of four players that everyone seems to agree will go in the top 5.

2) Shenron’s Wish: RB TreVeyon Henderson (Ohio State) – Bryar’s top backs have not been playing up to par. Henderson seems to be widely viewed as the top RB for 2024 and he’s being mocked in the late first-early second round.

3) Ferocious Felines: TE Brock Bowers (Georgia) – Schultz and Higbee are a solid duo you can use to rotate through based on matchups. However, Bowers has the talent to replace Kelce at the top of the Fantasy Tight End tower.

4) NUKEM: QB Caleb Williams (USC) – Since he is a diehard Oklahoma fan, I have a feeling Pastor Dad would pass on Williams regardless of the Mahomes comparisons. But he’s basically considered to be the most “sure thing” QB prospect since Andrew Luck. And since Stafford is in his twilight, who knows where Cousins will be next season and Purdy is fun to root for but isn’t necessarily a Mahomes-like fantasy talent, I decided to mock Williams here anyway.

5) Michael Style: WR Malik Nabers (LSU) – It appears to be a four horse race behind Harrison for WR2 (Nabers, Odunze, Egbuka and Coleman). Alex could use consistency next to St. Brown and I have a feeling he’d favor the LSU product.

6) Kade’s Dawgs: RB Will Shipley (Clemson) – After Henderson people seem to be all over the place on which Running Back is #2. Shipley and Sanders are the two getting the most second round love, so I went with Shipley, who is having a much better season this year than he did last year. As for why RB? Pollard isn’t hitting expectations, Miller isn’t seeing the field, Warren isn’t “breaking out”, Zeke is on his way out and Mixon is close behind him. Another back to the rotation never hurts.

7) Space Rangers: WR Rome Odunze (Washington) – I have plenty of potential, but with A.J. Brown now gone I don’t currently have a true fantasy WR1. That could change over the remainder of the season, or with certain free agency news next March, but as of now Receiver appears to be my biggest need, and as of now I like Odunze more than Egbuka and Coleman.

8) Fantasy Fairies: RB Raheim Sanders (Arkansas) – Mostert is having a monster season but considering his age (31) and injury history, it’s safer to plan for a replacement option. He does have Swift who is working as the RB1 in Philly, Charbonnet could work into a bigger role with Seattle, and Ford could maintain his RB1A status while Chubb recovers. But, like I said with Kade’s Dawgs, it never hurts to have an extra back in your rotation.

9) Fear Itself: RB Blake Corum (Michigan) – Nathan has eight RBs on his roster. Jones is having an injury riddled year and Gibbs kind of broke out, but he’s been non-existent in Detroit’s offense when David Montgomery is healthy. And behind them is a plethora of role players, and J.K. Dobbins who just suffered his second major injury in 3 years. Corum is getting third round projections, probably because of the knee injury he suffered late in 2022, but he’s proving he’s still explosive on the field, so those projections could change fast.

10) Ferocious Felines (via ay_Bilat): QB Drake Maye (North Carolina) – Richardson was doing great from a fantasy perspective before that shoulder injury took him down for the season. Shoulder injuries to a QB can cause more complications later. Maye is expected to be the second QB drafted and to also go in the top five. Fred gets another young guy to possibly be his future at the position if Richardson doesn’t come back at 100% (or continues to deal with injury issues).

ay_Bilat (6-1) vs NUKEM (2-5)

Trey leads the series 6-4. Outside of his series with Nathan, this is the most competitive series Trey has going. Trey won both matchups last season, but Pastor Dad won when these two met back in week 4. Can he pull off the regular season sweep?

Fear Itself (5-2) vs Kade’s Dawgs (4-3)

This series is split 5-5 thanks to Curt’s win back in week 2! A win for Curt would mean a tie in overall record and division record at the top of the East. After a rough stretch from weeks 3-5, that would be huge for Curt!

Fantasy Fairies (4-3) vs Michael Style (4-3)

These two are tied at 1-1, and Ryan just finished destroying Alex two weeks ago. That apparently was the wake up call Michael Style needed based on their performance last week, so perhaps he exacts a little revenge this week.

Space Rangers (4-3) vs Noobmaster69 (2-5)

I lead the series 7-4 and I’m currently on a 5 game win streak over Simon including a win back in week 2. But since that loss Simon has gone 2-3 and scored 80+ in three weeks. I may need another 100 point performance if I want to win this time around too.

Ferocious Felines (2-5) vs Shenron’s Wish (2-5)

Bryar leads the series 5-4. Fred is one loss away from breaking his longest regular season losing streak (quite the feat to only have 3 losses as your longest regular season losing streak, if he loses this week, Curt would be the only team left that can claim that). Additionally, one of these teams is guaranteed to start the year 2-6. There has only ever been one team to make the playoffs after starting the year 2-6, Michael Style back in 2021. That’s 1 out of 24 playoff teams to date. Definitely an important week for these two, NUKEM and Noobmaster69.
