2023 Week 8 Dynasty Recap: Groups of Two

2023 Week 8 Dynasty Recap: Groups of Two

After another week of blowouts, we have two 2-6 teams, two 3-5 teams, two 4-4 teams, two 5-3 teams and two 6-2 teams. After next week we’ll have five games left in the season and there’s a chance the 4th seed will have a 3 game lead over the 7th seed. Maybe I should start the “Playoff Outlook” section a week early this year? We’ll see. Happy Halloween everyone, here are your week 8 results:

Fear Itself 94.43 over Kade’s Dawgs 79.58

Curt still kind of had a chance to win going into Monday night, he just needed Gibbs and Meyers to combine for 4 or less. Meyers held up his end of the deal (1.45), but the rookie decided he wanted to outdo his week 7 performance with 17.95 points this time around. Meanwhile, for Curt, Devonta Smith had his best game since week 2, but Kupp and Olave were nowhere to be found.

NUKEM 102.33 over ay_Bilat 86.42

Upset Central! Pastor Dad needed a big week from his team and they got the job done, pulling off the in-season sweep of Trey. But at what cost? Cousins is done for the year, which also hurts a certain rookie Receiver who had three double-digit performances in his last four weeks, and a certain veteran star who is supposed to be back in two weeks. At least Etienne continues his surge and he finally got the help he needed. For Trey, this was his team’s third worst performance of the season, but it was buoyed by another big week from CMC and Hill, both of which continue to hold down the top spots in the race for MVP.

Space Rangers 88.06 over Noobmaster69 69.84

My first chance to put Burrow in since the trade and he did not disappoint (16.81 points)! Now if only he would start throwing to Higgins more. Kamara (19.5) had a monster game for Simon, but nobody else got to 10 points and Goff and Carlson failed in the comeback bid on Monday night.

Ferocious Felines 92.80 over Shenron’s Wish 73.19

The Ferocious Felines blew up, led by CeeDee Lamb with his 26.5 points and Player of the Week honors. Jacobs’ 11.40 points on Monday night were unnecessary and felt a little like running up the score (I joke of course). Waddle and Lockett had solid performances for Bryar, but most of his team struggled. A hand injury to Stafford, and knee swelling for Nacua could really hurt Nacua’s chances at Rookie of the Year. Both are still expected to play this upcoming week, but something to keep an eye on.

Fantasy Fairies 121.33 over Michael Style 65.52

Hurts (17.68) and Brown (22.5) had big weeks once again, and this time the rest of Ryan’s team joined them. He didn’t have any player under 7, and four others scored 10+. As for Alex, well at least Hall continued his double-digit points streak, and LaPorta is running wild again, but Kyler Murray’s and/or Justin Fields’ return cannot come soon enough.

**Every two weeks I’m going to post the top ten here. Players only accumulate points if they’re in your starting lineup**

But wait, there’s more!!! Here is the current draft order as it sits right now. The * denotes playoff spots. Tie breakers for non-playoff teams will be determined by regular season head-to-head results, with the loser getting the better pick. In the event of a three-way tie, or an instance of an even 1-1 split on the season, the tie breaker will be points scored, with the team who had the least points scored getting the better pick.

1) Shenron’s Wish – Coach Bryar (2-6)

2) Noobmaster69 – Coach Simon (2-6)

3) Ferocious Felines – Coach Fred (3-5)

4) NUKEM – Coach Rob (3-5)

5) *Kade’s Dawgs – Coach Curt (4-4)

6) *Michael Style – Coach Alex (4-4)

7) *Space Rangers – Coach Lance (5-3)

8) *Fantasy Fairies – Coach Ryan (5-3)

9) *Fear Itself – Coach Nathan (6-2)

10) *ay_Bilat – Coach Trey (6-2)

Here’s a look ahead at next week:

ay_Bilat (6-2) vs Ferocious Felines (3-5)

Trey leads the series 8-4. A win for Trey and a loss for Alex would make it extremely difficult for anyone else to take the West.

Fear Itself (6-2) vs Noobmaster69 (2-6)

Nathan leads this brotherly love rivalry 7-2. Simon is one of the two 2-6 teams in the league. He and Bryar either need to win this week or risk putting themselves in a position no one has ever recovered from. No team has started the year 2-7 and made the playoffs. Furthermore, only one team has ever managed to win all five of their final five weeks (Fred, last year). And to go with that, in the two years we’ve had a 14 game regular season the worst record to make the playoffs was 7-7.

Fantasy Fairies (5-3) vs Kade’s Dawgs (4-4)

Curt is 3-0 against Ryan and he won their matchup back in week 1. This is a win Ryan needs in order to stay in step with Nathan. If history tells us anything, that’s going to be a tall order for Ryan, cause Kade’s Dawgs have scored 90+ in all three of their matchups.

Space Rangers (5-3) vs NUKEM (3-5)

We have a split series at 3-3. In the last four games we’ve traded off winning, so since I won back in week 6, theoretically it is Pastor Dad’s turn to win.

Michael Style (4-4) vs Shenron’s Wish (2-6)

These two have a split series too, but at 5-5. Alex has won 4 of the last 5, and he got the win back in week 1. Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of this matchup is that Alex is the lowest scoring team in the league, but is currently the 6th seed, while Bryar is currently holding the #1 pick despite being the 6th highest scoring team in the league. (Also, Bryar, I’m pretty sure you just read the parts that have your team’s name, so go back up to the Fear Itself (6-2) vs Noobmaster69 (2-6) section and read through).

That’s all for this week, good luck to you all in week 9!
