2024 Championship Week Dynasty Recap: A New Champion

2024 Championship Week Dynasty Recap: A New Champion

For those wondering how I feel each year when I get knocked out of the running for the championship, it does suck, but not as much as you might think. What I actually hope for each year is a competitive season and a new champion. At some point there will be no new champions to be crowned, at which time I will root for myself to win it every year from then on. Congratulations to our new champion! Here’s the full recap from championship weekend, and a little extra at the end:

Championship

Storm Surge 137.38 over The Empire 103.72

Just call them Snap, Crackle and Pop, cause that’s the noise you hear as the run over your team. Storm Surge’s rookie trio at Receiver, Nabers, BTJ and LMC, carried him to a championship victory, led by your championship MVP, Malik Nabers (32.60)! Quite the turnaround of a downtrodden team in their new front-office’s first season, and thanks to those names, the future is very bright. Bryar got some bad advice, but sitting Jameson Williams in favor of Bigsby only hurt his final score, not his chances at winning, so that’s a plus. He finally has this team back on the winning track, let’s see if he can keep it that way going forward.

Third Place

Kade’s Dawgs 119.76 over Fear Itself 119.68

Holy smokes that got close. So close in fact, that it ranks second on the league’s all-time closest games list. Curt was sitting in a good position going into the Sunday night game, but then McLaurin turned in a bust of a game, and suddenly it was wide open. Jahmyr Gibbs did everything in his power to come through for Nathan but he fell .09 shy of the win. To put that in perspective, that’s a 9 yard run, or a 4 yard catch…so close. This is Curt’s first top 3 finish since year 1, and it’s Nathan’s first time not finishing top 3 since year 1.

CONSOLATION Championship

Ferocious Felines 124.86 over NUKEM 116.28

Fred went into his first Consolation bracket with one thing in mind, “don’t lose again.” And he made it happen. This one ended up being closer than it looked like it was going to be early on. Baker Mayfield further put his stamp on Fred’s QB1 spot with his team leading 29.56 points, earning him MVP of the Consolation Championship. Jayden Daniels (29.78) was the actual highest scoring player in the game though, so close to having two rookies take home MVP’s in both title games.

Eleventh Place

ay_Bilat 122.00 over Fantasy Fairies 96.40

I realized yesterday that I forgot to put out one stat for Ryan coming into this week: Four out of the five teams that finished the regular season in last place for the league through our first five years also finished dead last in the Consolation bracket. You weren’t able to make that four out of six. A couple of changes to the starting lineup and you would’ve gotten the win, but who would’ve started Alec Pierce this week? Not me. Trey avoided becoming the first coach that has won a league championship to finish dead last in any season afterward. To be fair, the only two that have won championships in any year and since returned to the Consolation bracket were Trey and Fred this year, but he gets to leave the privilege of breaking this specific barrier to someone else (or maybe himself in the future).

NEXT UP…

The NFL Draft and then our Dynast Draft!

Like previous seasons, you can make offseason trades (you cannot make offseason drop and pickups). For now, if you want to make a trade with someone and you don’t have a way to contact them let me know. I’ll give you their last name so you can add them on Facebook and message them that way. Or I’ll give you their email address. However, Bryar and I are working on setting up a Discord server that I will add everyone too after we’re done. It’ll make it easier to contact each other, easier for me to post the trades and the weekly recaps, and give us an area to trash talk that doesn’t have to rely on the Yahoo app. We’re also going to look into running the draft through it. So, if you don’t have a Discord already, download the app and create an account, it is free, then let me know what your account name is.

During offseason trades you don’t need to have an even balance of picks, i.e. one coach could receive a first round pick and not give up a pick in return, unless the coach that’s not receiving a pick in return will have a roster that drops to 18 or less players (in other words, the sum of your rostered players and pick needs to be no less than 21 come time for the draft, no manipulating the system). PLEASE NOTE: If the current league vote that’s happening passes, I will change the ruling on this just for this offseason, more on that if it passes. Once the trade has been agreed upon make sure BOTH coaches send me the trade so that I know you both accepted and then I will send it out to the rest of the league to be voted on. The coaches not involved in the trade will have 2 days to respond back to me with a yay or nay. In order for a trade to not be accepted there will need to be 4 rejections from other coaches. IF A PLAYER RETIRES who is currently owned, then the team that owns him will only have to cut up to 2 players (see below). If a player retires during the draft, or after the draft and before I input the rosters, the team that has him will receive an extra pick.

In the next week (potentially later today if I find time to proofread everything) I will email out a few things: an end of season PowerPoint I put together with a bunch of random things from the league year, two word documents that I wrote up for fun, an excel spreadsheet with each coach’s FULL roster and draft picks so you have a list to go off of when trying to make trades, and in the body of the email I will have a message from one of your fellow coaches (no, it’s not the league champ) that you are going to want to make sure you read through.

The draft will be three rounds and will be for all available players. On the first weekend of August (that would be the 2nd/3rd) I’m going to message everyone individually and ask that you cut UP TO 3 players (if on the final weekend you chose not to hang onto a full 21 then I will adjust that number accordingly). YOU DO NOT HAVE TO CUT ANYONE. The number of players you cut will determine how many picks you have going into the draft. What that means is if you have 21 players, and:

-You choose to cut the maximum of 3 you will have all three of your picks.

-If you choose to cut only 2 players, you will have your first two picks.

-If you choose to cut only 1 player, you will have your first pick.

-And if you choose to cut no one, you will not have a pick in the draft this year.

I will adjust that in the message I send to you in August based on the number of players you have and the number of picks. The decision is completely up to you. YOU WILL HAVE UNTIL NOON ON THE WEDNESDAY BEFORE THE DRAFT TO DECIDE ON WHO YOU ARE CUTTING (which this year will be the 20th). I’m putting this out there now and I will include it in the email I send out, the draft is going to be scheduled for August 23rd at 9pm EST/8pm Central, so put it in your calendars with a notification so you don’t decide to schedule something else. At the beginning of July, I will send out a reminder for that date and time and if you had something come up that you just can’t get out of, we can talk about it then. The draft took less than 20 minutes this past year (might have been less than 15?), that was with the later start time, and I’m pretty sure it didn’t mess up anyone’s beauty sleep, right?

One last thing. If you do not want to continue on in the league next year that’s fine, there aren’t any hard feelings, I just ask that you please let me know early on if possible. I need to make sure I give your replacement enough time to fix your mistakes.

That’s all for this season, good luck to you all in the offseason, I hope you make the right choices to help make your teams better, just not better than mine.
