2024 Week 2 Dynasty Recap: Here Comes the Boom

This is the offensive explosion I expected to see when the scoring changed. Not everyone got to partake *sad sigh* but there were a lot of scoring highlights. The Empire set the new single game scoring record with their 174.48 point outburst. Alvin Kamara’s 43.00 points takes the single week regular season record, but only by 0.45 though, which really makes me wonder what a massive outburst could look like under the new scoring system. The Empire vs Ferocious Felines shattered the highest scoring game record, and the Michael Style vs NUKEM game also surpassed it, that record had stood since week 5 of season 1. Michael Style may not have beaten the single game scoring record, but he did destroy his team’s pervious high, and it was good enough to rank 4th all time. Fred’s performance was also good enough to crack the top ten (9th). Here are your week 2 results:

Fear Itself 118.96 over Kade’s Dawgs 110.80

Josh Allen was quiet and Aaron Jones came back down to Earth, but the rest of Nathan’s team played hard and Fear Itself was able to hold off a Monday night surge by Kade’s Dawgs. Devonta Smith did his best to try and push his team to the top, but 17.1 points wasn’t enough. There was a touchdown catch that Smith had knocked out of his hands last night, but that only would’ve led to more heartbreak Curt, it would have been a 7.1 point play.

Michael Style 141.34 over NUKEM 123.54

Kyler Murray showed glimpses of his old self last week and this week we got to see the whole thing. Amon-Ra St. Brown also bounced back, and Michael Style’s quadruplet of Running Backs all went for 14+ including a team leading 28 points out of James Cook. “Running Backs? Don’t talk to me about Running Backs,” NUKEM says after trading for Najee Harris this week just to try and patch the position. Rob may have lost, but it must have been a wonderful thing to see Marvin Harrison Jr. post 27 fantasy points in one quarter, it’s too bad he couldn’t add on to that through the other three quarters.

ay_Bilat 114.64 over Fantasy Fairies 79.02

Trey should be eternally grateful that the Fantasy Fairies were his opponent this week, and that all but two of his players decided they’re still kicking off the offseason rust. The only time you can look at your team and think, “man my Kicker and my defense!” and not have a sickening feeling in your stomach is after a win! At least they were only Trey’s third and fourth highest scoring players as Davante Adams and James Conner played like they were 25 again this week. Ryan, missing the news that a player in your lineup is out on a Thursday night game leaves you going, “so stupid, I could’ve started __ instead” all the way until the Sunday games end. Fortunately, Ryan, there wasn’t player on the bench that you could’ve started in Mostert’s place and managed a win, so that feeling fades and you have hope again for the next week.

The Empire 174.48 over Ferocious Felines 136.36

Here’s the record breaking game. Let’s play a game. How many players could Bryar have started by themselves and still beat Ryan and I this week? If you guessed three, you were right and almost right. The starting combination of Alvin Kamara, Nico Collins and J.K. Dobbins came 1.12 shy of my total for the week. As mentioned above, Alvin Kamara broke the record for points scored in a game and obviously is the Player of the Week. For those wondering who he beat out, it was Joe Mixon in week 9 of 2022, and I looked up his half PPR point total that week, for our new scoring system it would’ve been 53.1 points. The Ferocious Felines seeing early on Sunday the threat heading their way took a firm stance to try and swat it down, but down performances by a handful of stars held the rest of the team back. On the bright side, with Mostert out Miami had no problem going Achane heavy.

Storm Surge 125.58 over Space Rangers 87.22

This game was like the tortoise and the hare, if the hare didn’t take a nap and the tortoise realized it was in over its head from the start and hid in its shell. A few down games from focal points on the Storm Surge team were offset by Malik Nabers introducing himself to the league, Rashid Shaheed’s explosive performance, and Ka’imi Fairbairn kicking the lights out on Sunday night. All due respect to Bijan’s consistency, Chris Godwin has been the lone bright spot on my team through two weeks, which was never how I thought this season would go, even in the scenarios where I saw my team bombing. Enjoy this while you can old men, you’re not winning the next matchup, even if I have to kneecap a few players.

**Every two weeks I’m going to post the top ten here. Players only accumulate points if they’re in your starting lineup**

TOP TEN

1) RB Alvin Kamara (The Empire) 62.50

2) RB Saquon Barkley (Storm Surge) 47.80

3) RB De’Von Achane (Ferocious Felines) 45.50

4) QB Jayden Daniels (NUKEM) 41.60

5) QB Lamar Jackson (The Empire) 40.50

6) QB Jalen Hurts (Fantasy Fairies) 40.24

7) RB James Cook (Michael Style) 39.80

8) WR Chris Godwin (Space Rangers) 39.50

9) QB Kyler Murray (Michael Style) 38.72

10) WR Nico Collins (The Empire) 38.20

A look ahead at Week 3:

The Empire (2-0) vs Michael Style (1-1)

Alex took ahold of this series last year when he swept Bryar to go up 6-5. They’ve never managed to both be toward the top of the West at the same time, so this matchup will be a first. Bryar is the highest scoring team in the league so far, something he hasn’t done since season 1, and Alex is borderline top 5 in scoring, something his team has never done. Are we in for another barnburner?

Storm Surge (2-0) vs Kade’s Dawgs (1-1)

This is the oldest fantasy football rivalry in the league, dating back to the late 20th century. Before Y2K was a concern, before some of you were born(?), back when Running Backs were the stars and Kickers were getting drafted in the first round. That’s how old this rivalry is, and it’s time for some new sparks to light the fire.

Fear Itself (2-0) vs Fantasy Fairies (0-2)

Nathan leads 3-1 in the series. The only time Ryan beat Nathan he needed some mid-season bye weeks and the element of surprise to assist him. Bye weeks aren’t an option, but it would certainly be a surprise if he pulled off the upset. Can he catch Nathan looking ahead to his matchup with Storm Surge?

Ferocious Felines (1-1) vs Space Rangers (0-2)

I lead the series 5-3. After beating Fred twice last year, including a playoff opening win, I suspect he’ll be out for blood in this one. Too bad it’s time for these kitties to take a nap.

ay_Bilat (1-1) vs NUKEM (0-2)

Trey leads the series 6-5. This is uncharted territory for NUKEM, as it’s the first time they’ve ever started a season 0-2. They have also set a new longest losing streak in team history, now at 10 straight, they’ll need to lose 6 more though if they’re going to break Simon’s league record. Technically Trey is also in uncharted territory since he started every season 2-0 before last week’s loss. Trey was aided by a poor performance from his opponent this week, meanwhile Rob blew up, but his opponent did too. Can NUKEM build on that to even the series, or will ay_Bilat flip the script?

It's time for Fun Stats with Lance! There have been 14 teams that have started the year 2-0, only one of those teams did not make the playoffs. 8 of those 14 teams ended up winning in week 3 to make it 3-0, all 8 of those teams made the playoffs. In other words, to the three undefeated teams left, win here and things are looking really, really good. Also, starting out 0-3 isn’t a total death sentence, but it’s close. I created a table to break it all down:
