2024 Week 4 Dynasty Recap: Rivalry Week

Only one game with real fireworks, which was a little bit of a letdown. Rivalry week did have one not so fun stat with it this year. Count with me as we look at the number of players to score 10+ points while sitting on the bench (player had to outscore a starter in order to count towards the count), I’ll write it out at the end of each section as “Count = ”. Here are your week 4 results:

Storm Surge 107.50 over Fear Itself 98.00

Storm Surge was completely finished after the second set of games Sunday, so all Coach Joel and Coach Anthony could do was kick back, put their feet up and enjoy some popcorn as they watched the rest of their matchup unfold. Jahmyr Gibbs tried to pull it out on Monday night, but Fear Itself was just unable to overcome Josh Allen’s poor performance and Rashee Rice’s injury. After the game was over, Joel was quoted as saying, “This victory was huge for this team!!”, and then there was some mumbling about biting kneecaps. He was specifically referring to Storm Surge’s goal of beating Yahoo’s preseason projections, but this was a big victory in another way as well: In four weeks, Storm Surge accomplished something Simon hadn’t done since week 3 of season 1, take over as the top team in the East. Count = 8, 4 for Nathan and 4 for Joel.

ay_Bilat 112.54 over Michael Style 95.36

For the third straight week Trey’s opponent scored under 100, and his team did what it had to, to get the W. It’s pretty similar to the path Alex took to the West title last year, so we know it’s possible for it to keep going. Bonus, Chuba Hubbard has really stepped up to replace CMC for the time being. Now, if Trey could just get the rest of his superstars to play like they’re supposed to. Alex tried to make a push late in the final Monday night game, but the Lions already had a solid lead, so St. Brown and LaPorta didn’t get much work after St. Brown’s last touchdown. Crazy that Justin Fields would’ve been the one to get him the victory, not a start many would’ve gone with if they were in Alex’s shoes this week. Count = 13, 1 for Trey and 4 for Alex.

Kade’s Dawgs 157.80 over The Empire 128.24

If it could go right for Curt this week, it did go right. Even the one player that went towards the Count would’ve only added an extra two points. His kicker got him 20 points for crying out loud. That one actually might have hurt Bryar the most (he’s a Saints fan for those that don’t know). Bryar, you reclaimed the top spot in the most points scored race, and your team doesn’t appear to be letting up, it’s just tough when your opponent also explodes. Count = 15, 1 for Curt and 1 for Bryar.

Ferocious Felines 120.44 over NUKEM 81.62

Derrick Henry. I really don’t need to say anything else about Fred’s team from this week. Henry’s 34.4 points was good enough to win Player of the Week honors. Rob, it might seem like a big dark cloud is hanging over your team, but there are two bright spots pushing through it. Their names are Jayden Daniels and Marvin Harrison Jr. Both of your top two picks from this draft look like the real deal. Count = 22, 4 for Fred and 3 for Rob.

Space Rangers 128.68 over Fantasy Fairies 81.72

I was very grateful that Ryan’s team didn’t follow up their breakout from last week with an encore performance. Walker’s Monday night showing may not have pulled off Player of the Week honors, but it made me extremely happy to see after he missed the last two weeks. As for Ryan, it just doesn’t seem like his team can pull together. One or two players have great games, but they’re drowned out by a handful of really bad performances. Count = 23, 1 for Ryan. Decided, to do the count because, while we’ve had some bad weeks in past seasons with points left on the bench, this week just seemed like there was a really high number as I was going through, and that intrigued me.

**Every two weeks I’m going to post the top ten here. Players only accumulate points if they’re in your starting lineup**

But wait, there’s more!!! Here is the current draft order as it stands right now. The * denotes playoff spots. Tie breakers for non-playoff teams will be determined by regular season head-to-head results, with the loser getting the better pick. In the event of a three-way tie, or an instance of an even 1-1 split on the season, the tie breaker will be points scored, with the team who had the least points scored getting the better pick.

1) Fantasy Fairies – Coach Ryan (0-4)

2) NUKEM – Coach Rob (0-4)

3) Space Rangers – Coach Lance (2-2)

4) Michael Style – Coach Alex (2-2)

5) *Ferocious Felines – Coach Fred (2-2)

6) *Kade’s Dawgs – Coach Curt (2-2)

7) *The Empire – Coach Bryar (2-2)

8) *Fear Itself – Coach Nathan (3-1)

9) *ay_Bilat – Coach Trey (3-1)

10) *Storm Surge – Coach Joel (4-0)

Here’s a look ahead at next week:

Storm Surge (4-0) vs Fantasy Fairies (0-4)

The two newest coaches in the league are trending in polar opposite directions. Ryan’s loss last week pushed his current losing streak to 6, which set his new team record. I guess the biggest question now is, will Joel become just the third coach ever (Trey and Nathan being the other two) to start a season 5-0, or will Ryan end his losing streak?

ay_Bilat (3-1) vs The Empire (2-2)

A rivalry revived. Trey leads the series 8-2. That makes my first statement look ridiculous, but the main point I was making is that these were the ones duking it out for the West title in the first two seasons. Bryar scored the most points in the league season 1, but Trey won the West, and Trey scored the most points in the league in season 2, but Bryar won the West. Bryar currently holds the points lead, while Trey sit atop the West; will history repeat itself?

Fear Itself (3-1) vs NUKEM (0-4)

Nathan is up 7-1 in this series. Rob doesn’t have many matchups he’s down bad in, this one is by far the worst though. To make matters worse, he’s pushed his losing streak to 12 straight (including the postseason), another loss would put him two away from tying Simon’s record.

Kade’s Dawgs (2-2) vs Space Rangers (2-2)

I hold the series lead at 6-5. Fun stat, in each of the last three years one of us has swept the other. 2023 and 2021 I won both matchups, 2022 Curt won both and then also beat me in the playoffs. I think it’s time I hang another in the win column, and then I’ll finish the sweep in week 10.

Ferocious Felines (2-2) vs Michael Style (2-2)

Fred leads the series 6-4, but Alex hasn’t been swept by him since year 1. This is Fred’s real rivalry week, he declared it before week 3, making it abundantly clear he plans to wipe the floor with the entirety of Michael Style.

That’s all for this week, good luck to you all in week 5!
