2024 Week 6 Dynasty Recap: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

The good: the Space Rangers, Kade’s Dawgs and Fear Itself’s scoring sprees. The bad: Fred finishing as the fourth highest scoring team and still getting an L, and the continued mounting injuries. The ugly: five teams scored less than 100 points for the first time this season, which is more something you’d expect to see in week 1. A lot to get through this week, so here are your week 6 results:

NUKEM 86.56 over Storm Surge 86.50

Like Bryar messaged me this morning, don’t count your chickens just yet, a stat correction could change this if Yahoo finds something to correct. For now, though, all bids for an undefeated season have come to an end, and Nathan’s 7-0 record to start a season lives on. This game was ugly. But before we get into that, after doing extensive research through our archives this morning, I’ve found that this is the closest game in league history. The previous leader in that category was an Alex vs Bryar matchup in the consolation bracket back in season 4 (the differential was 0.13). So, congrats to you two on breaking that record. As for the team performances, injuries to Marvin Harrison Jr. (0.00) and Travis Etienne (-0.10) really got NUKEM started on the wrong foot, and had it looking like a victory Storm Surge would cruise to despite the lack of production from some of their bigger stars. But then Najee Harris went off in the late afternoon, and a fourth quarter touchdown by Courtland Sutton would give NUKEM a chance to come away with the upset. An average performance by Tee Higgins on Sunday night, coupled with a late fourth quarter field goal by Tyler Bass was just enough to finish the job.

The Empire 114.22 over Fantasy Fairies 99.36

Bryar’s Empire fought through a Jordan Mason first half injury, and an early Dallas Goedert injury to overcome Ryan’s upset bid. Bryar’s team was literally split down the middle with five of his players scoring 14.9 or more, and the other five scoring 9 or less. This was Ryan’s second best game of the season, and it was largely thanks to A.J. Brown’s return. Swift continued his high play too (three straight games with 19 or more points). Now he either needs the rest of his team to join Hurts, Swift and Brown, or perhaps he goes the baseball trade deadline route…

Kade’s Dawgs 142.58 over Ferocious Felines 120.20

Sorry, Fred. I feel partially responsible for Kade’s Dawgs blowing up after that beat down I gave them last week. In most weeks 120 points would be enough to get a win, but when your opponent is one of the teams exploding for the week, it’s not a help. At least it stacks up points for in case there’s a playoff tiebreaker you need in order to get in. I noticed while looking at both teams that there were a lot of double-digit scorers and started to count them before I realized it would be easier to count those players that scored in the single digits: 6 players out of the 20, that’s crazy. Fred looks like he has his answer at QB with Baker hitting his fourth game of 20+ this season. Meanwhile, for Kade’s Dawgs, Joe Mixon returned to the lineup and scored the most points in this game.

Fear Itself 138.8 over Michael Style 89.56

Either Josh Allen just made it known that he isn’t gone, or he is going to have an incredibly sporadic season. So, far he’s scored 22+ in three games, and under 14 in three games. Fear Itself got off to a great start with Kittle and Samuel on Thursday night and that carried over to Sunday. This game was basically decided before Monday night, Allen’s performance was just the cherry on top. I would like to give a bigger shoutout to George Kittle. He’s single-handedly trying to carry the Tight End position in fantasy this year. He has double the points of the next highest scoring Tight End in our league, and the top five Kickers all have more points than the four Tight Ends behind Kittle. The “All-Bench team” strikes again! Alex essentially left 37 points on his bench (when you take away the points from the starters that his high bench scorers would’ve replaced). Some positive takeaways for Alex: Those points wouldn’t have earned him the win, Breece Hall broke out of that slump he was in, and his first round pick Caleb Williams had his best game yet with the bonus being that he was able to do it not at home.

Space Rangers 159.42 over ay_Bilat 75.22

A week after I got the second highest scoring game in league history, I managed to get the third highest, and now I’m a little nervous as I wait for the other shoe to drop. If it could wait to drop until after week 8, I would greatly appreciate it, as my next two games are extremely important. Chris Godwin’s 30 points were enough for Player of the Week honors!! I love it. Trey’s team hit a new low for the league. New scoring system makes it way harder to touch the lowest scoring games of all time, so a new category has to be created and ay_Bilat’s 75.22 points just overtook Ryan’s 79.02 from week 2. I’d say on the plus side for him, Mahomes, Kelce and Hill will be back from bye next week, but this season they have been far from their superstar level we’ve become accustomed to. At least Davante Adams is hooking back up with Rodgers. Side note, while going through and looking at the closest games in league history, I also checked out the biggest blowouts. This game (84.2 point differential) will go down as the second biggest blowout of all time, the biggest blowout was back in week 11 of season 3 when Rob beat Simon by 99.8 points.

**Every two weeks I’m going to post the top ten here. Players only accumulate points if they’re in your starting lineup**

TOP TEN

1) QB Lamar Jackson (The Empire) 135.46

2) RB Derrick Henry (Ferocious Felines) 132.30

3) RB Alvin Kamara (The Empire) 122.60

4) QB Joe Burrow (Space Rangers) 110.52

5) QB Josh Allen (Fear Itself) 108.20

6) QB Jayden Daniels (NUKEM) 104.30

7) WR Chris Godwin (Space Rangers) 102.80

8) RB Saquon Barkley (Storm Surge) 98.40

9) QB Kyler Murray (Michael Style) 97.54

10) QB C.J. Stroud (Kade’s Dawgs) 94.58

Here’s a look ahead at next week:

Storm Surge (5-1) vs Kade’s Dawgs (3-3)

The first duplicate matchup for Joel, and he leads the series 1-0. Kade’s Dawgs’ week 6 performance not only cut-off the leaks in the ship, it completely reversed their season course. And now they’ll look to keep their heading against a Storm Surge team coming off their worst week of the season. Barring a playoff rematch, this will rap up the rivalry older than time for 2024. Joel, Curt said to tell you the Captain sends his regards.

Space Rangers (4-2) vs Fear Itself (4-2)

Nathan owns the series 9-3. As a matter of fact, the last time I beat Nathan, Solomon was dressed as Scooby Doo and couldn’t even utter a syllable in Trick or Treat (i.e. Halloween of 2022). If I really want to remain in the running for the East I will need to end that losing streak now.

The Empire (4-2) vs Ferocious Felines (2-4)

Bryar is up 6-5 after he took the lead back in week 2. That was also the week Bryar set the league scoring record, and these two combined for the highest scoring game in league history. Will we get those same fireworks this time around?

ay_Bilat (3-3) vs NUKEM (2-4)

Trey is out front 7-5, but these two are trending in opposite directions. Can NUKEM capitalize on their recent success, or will ay_Bilat break their fall?

Michael Style (3-3) vs Fantasy Fairies (0-6)

Ryan has a winning record against just a handful of teams and his 2-1 series lead over Alex is one of them. I focused on winning streaks to open a season recently, but hadn’t given any love to the longest losing streaks to start a season. That record belongs to Alex way back in season 1 when he started 0-7. Can Ryan maintain his series lead over Alex, or will Alex force Ryan to tie his record and set him up with a chance to break it in week 8?

It's time for….FUN STATS WITH LANCE!

To date we have had 30 playoff teams and 20 consolation bracket teams:

Out of those 30 playoff teams, only 4 have had a losing record through the first 6 weeks (3 at 2-4 and 1 at 1-5[season 1, Ben]).

That means, by losing record standards, Fred, Rob and Ryan have about a 13.3% chance to still make it, although Ryan would become the first team ever to not have a win through 6 weeks and make the playoffs.

· To break this down a little further: There have been 2 teams to start 0-6 (0/2 on making the playoffs), 6 teams to start 1-5 (1/6 made the playoffs), and 12 teams to start 2-4 (3/12 made the playoffs)

Out of the 20 consolation bracket teams, 4 have started out at .500 or better and missed the playoffs (2 at 3-3 and 2 at 4-2).

That means the rest of us have about a 25% chance of missing the playoffs still, though Joel would become the first team ever to have more than 4 wins through 6 weeks and miss the playoffs.

· And to break this down a little further: There have been 6 teams to start 5-1 (6/6 made the playoffs), 15 teams to start 4-2 (13/15 made the playoffs), and 8 teams to start 3-3 (6/8 made the playoffs)

Morale of the story: Just because you’re feeling pretty good, or things haven’t gone the way you wanted doesn’t mean your season is set. You gotta keep moving forward.

That’s all for this week, good luck to you all in week 7!
