2024 Week 7 Dynasty Recap: Miracle Monday
There were four games still in play when Monday night rolled around, I can’t remember a week that was like this one in any of our previous seasons. One of those was my game and it was projected to finish in my favor, but I’d still count it as one of the miracles as it ended my losing streak to Nathan before Godwin went down for the year. Two of the other games did not go as planned, thanks to a trio of players for the Ferocious Felines and one big redemption story for NUKEM. And the cherry on top is that both of those outcomes have caused the entire West to either be 4-3 or 3-4. No point in prolonging it, here are your week 7 results:
NUKEM 108.14 over ay_Bilat 102.86
The redemption story of the season. I suppose I could be referring to the entire NUKEM team as they have now won three straight after starting 0-4, or I could be referring to Mark Andrews’ 18.1 point performance on Monday night that scored NUKEM the win despite the initial projections. It was feast or famine in this one with each team having five players below ten points and five above. I thought for sure Courtland Sutton was going to be the headline here going from savior in week 6 to zero in week 7, but Andrews saved his bacon. Trey got Mahomes, Kelce, Hill and Chubb back, but it wasn’t enough to get his team back up to where we’ve been accustomed to seeing them.
Space Rangers 126.94 over Fear Itself 119.42
First, shout out to our Player of the Week, Jahmyr Gibbs (30.00). It may not have been enough to get the win, but he did everything he could to make me feel the heat. I’d also like to give a shoutout to my starting backfield, Robinson and Walker, you two made sure I had a fighting chance, and one last shoutout to Justin Tucker, it may have been a Godwin catch that put me ahead, but it was your leg that allowed that catch to put me over the top. We both had one goose egg produced each, Tank Dell failed to haul in any of his four targets, and pneumonia took down Deebo Samuel before he could make a catch or carry the ball, but the rest of our teams did a pretty good job to cover that up.
Michael Style 109.90 over Fantasy Fairies 96.16
Kyler Murray needed 7 points on Monday night and he said “you want a foot, but I’m gonna give you a mile,” before rattling off 20! Breece Hall seemed to be the biggest beneficiary of the Davante Adams trade, tying for the most targets by a Jets player this week and leading them in receiving yards…seems right. The Amari Cooper trade to Buffalo already appears to be a boost for Ryan, and Hurts and Brown continued their scoring outbursts, but most of the rest of his team struggled. There are rumors the Browns may be targeting a trade for a new QB though, so perhaps a Jeudy boost is coming as well!
Ferocious Felines 141.50 over The Empire 123.94
Sorry to make you dwell on this more Bryar, I know you’re curled up in a ball in your hotel bathtub right now eating a pint of ice cream, but it’s gotta be done. So, Fred went into Monday night with Mayfield, Henry, Dicker and Baltimore’s defense, and Bryar went in with Jackson, Flowers, Otton, Dobbins and McLaughlin, and the score was basically tied. Projections were all in favor of The Empire. But that chip on Mayfield’s shoulder (26.00), Henry’s stiff-arm (24.70) and Dicker the Kicker (21.00) had other plans. Jackson tried his hardest both to get the win and take home Player of the Week honors, but he couldn’t do it alone as three of the other four faded quietly into the night.
Storm Surge 113.46 over Kade’s Dawgs 83.14
Curt, I was instructed to provide a little context to this rematch. Back after their first head to head in week 3, Curt sent a text message to Joel stating, “I will seek my revenge in week 7…”. Never give them bulletin board material Curt. Barkley was injecting steroids before this game, ready to stomp out any thoughts of revenge on the opposing sideline and that’s exactly what he did with his game leading 25.7 points. Joe Mixon (25.4) tried to match him, but the slack was not picked up by the rest of the Dawgs. Joel’s final words as the Gatorade rained down over his head were, “we own those puppies now, time to toss them in the crate and move on to next week.”
Here’s a look ahead at next week:
Storm Surge (6-1) vs Space Rangers (5-2)
A week 2 showdown gave Joel the early 1-0 lead in this series. It also yielded my worst output of the season and the only game I scored less than 110 in, let’s not duplicate that. I head into this having won five straight and scored 126 or more in each of my last four. Joel is going into it fresh off a big win over his biggest rival. Who’s momentum will carry them through?
Michael Style (4-3) vs ay_Bilat (3-4)
Trey is up 8-5, and he got that big win back in week 4 that’s played a major role in preventing Alex from running the table in the West. This stat may seem made up, but a loss for Trey here will match his most regular season losses ever (he had 5 in season 2 and in season 5). This stat won’t seem made up, a win for Alex here will mark his most wins through 8 weeks ever.
Fear Itself (4-3) vs Kade’s Dawgs (3-4)
Nathan leads 7-5. Curt has been looking up at Nathan in the East in every season since Nathan took over the division in year 2. Now he has an opportunity to put Nathan one step closer to knowing how he’s felt over the last four years. But the question is, can his team’s sporadic play work in his favor this week, or will Nathan’s mostly steady team get the job done?
The Empire (4-3) vs Fantasy Fairies (0-7)
We covered this one two weeks ago, Ryan is up 3-2 now and this remains one of the only matchups he has a winning record in. It seems like every time Bryar gets knocked off the throne in the West he finds a way to put himself right back on it the following week, can he do it again? Ryan is now one game away from breaking Alex’s record for most losses to start a season. He came close to pulling off the upset in week 6, can he cling to the series lead and snap his losing streak this time?
Ferocious Felines (3-4) vs NUKEM (3-4)
Rob leads the series 8-5, and he’s won three straight! Both teams pulled off their own Monday night miracles which means they could ride that wave to another big week, or they could get stuck daydreaming about it and failing to muster more than a tenth of what they just did. Either way, one of them is in position to put themselves right in the thick of the playoff race, while the other could find themselves looking in from the outside when the dust settles in week 8.
That’s all for this week, good luck to you all in week 8!
