2024 Wildcard Week Dynasty Recap: A Mild Weekend to Forget

2024 Wildcard Week Dynasty Recap: A Mild Weekend to Forget

Wildcard weekend features only two games, so I’m just gonna dive right into the recap:

Kade’s Dawgs 109.44 over Space Rangers 98.74

A goose egg by Kupp on Thursday night wasn’t about to stop Kade’s Dawgs from advancing. McLaurin and Devonta Smith picked up the slack, and Reichard finished the job on Monday night. To address the Smith aspect, thanks a lot Brandon Graham for running your mouth in the week leading up to the fantasy playoffs, that was Smith’s best game of the season. One thing I forgot to point out in last week’s recap, Nathan might be on a heater with points, but Curt has now won 5 straight, the current longest active win streak. I should’ve seen this loss coming from a mile away. Week’s 11-13 felt like foreshadowing. And fun fact, I’ve now made the playoffs four times, I’ve won two opening round games (both against Fred), and now I’ve lost two opening round games, both against Curt, my playoff kryptonite.

Fear Itself 186.18 over Michael Style 114.66

That is two straight games of 185+ points for Nathan, and this outing by him comes in at second on the most points scored in a game list. He only had two players score under 10, he had more (4) go for 20+. And now Gibbs has an offense that loves to run the ball all to himself after the David Montgomery injury (sorry Curt), so good luck to the remaining playoff teams. Alex had one of the worst strings of play I witnessed on RedZone this year. First, James Cook scored his second touchdown of the day on Alex’s bench, then Jonathan Taylor scored on a 41-yard touchdown only to drop the ball just before he crossed the goal line and have it ruled a fumble so a 10.1 play turned into a -2 point play, and then Kyler Murray got pancaked between two defenders and had to leave the game, all within about a 20 minute span. Murray did come back (not that it made much of a difference), but that series pretty much sums up Alex’s Sunday.

NEXT UP…

1 Storm Surge (11-3) vs 5 Kade’s Dawgs (8-6)

The only way this game would be better staged is if it was the championship. The old rivalry renewed played for a third time with a spot in the championship on the line. It’s going to be a fun one. Joel won both regular season games. Can Curt get the last laugh though?

2 The Empire (8-6) vs 3 Fear Itself (9-5)

Nathan is up 4-3 in the series. They’ve played one postseason matchup against each other, in the season 2 third-place game, in which Nathan won 83.20-69.15. The two highest scoring teams in the league this year and their week 13 matchup showed a glimpse of that (260.50 total points). Bryar won that one, and it was Nathan’s only game under 140 points in his last 5 outings. Can Bryar cool him off again?

Fifth Place Game: 4 Space Rangers (8-6) vs 6 Michael Style (7-7)

Well Alex, this one isn’t for all the marbles, but a little bit of a statement to close out the year wouldn’t be a bad thing right? I know I’d like to extend my series lead on you, which currently sits at 4-2, but I hope you’ll give it your best shot. And remember, winning or losing doesn’t affect draft order, you’re pick 5 and I’m pick 6.

7 NUKEM (7-7) vs 10 Fantasy Fairies (1-13) AND 8 Ferocious Felines (6-8) vs 9 ay_Bilat (5-9)

The consolation bracket is usually one of those forget about it kind of things, but I hope you four down here will put forth the effort. It doesn’t affect your draft order, so there’s nothing to lose by trying to win. It does however effect your position in the final rankings, so ask yourself, would you rather finish 7th or dead last? Rob and Ryan are split 2-2 in their brief series, so one of you is about to take control. Fred and Trey, on the other hand, have a lot of games under their belts, it’s actually the most played series in the entire league, and Trey is currently up 9-6.

That’s all for this week, good luck to everyone in the divisional round!
