2025 Week 3 Dynasty Recap: Wow!

Several surprises and one fun Monday night showdown made this a week to remember. Here are your week 3 results:
Michael Style 133.12 over Space Rangers 112.92
Can you call it a small glimmer of hope when I had a 3.3 point lead going into Monday night and Alex had St. Brown and LaPorta left? Probably not, huh? Alex took home Player of the Week for the second week in a row thanks to Jonathan Taylor’s 31.3 points. I’d say this game was all Taylor, but Caleb Williams went for 25.12, JSN for 18.1, St. Brown for 17.2, and Ricky Pearsall went for 15.7, so it was more of a team effort. If there’s a silver lining for me it’s that my second, second round pick, Elic Ayomanor, has caught touchdowns in back-to-back weeks. Not the rookie Receiver I expected to see a return on early in the season.
Fantasy Fairies 105.04 over The Empire 98.72
Ryan had about a 38 point lead going into Monday night. He was all out of players, facing down the firing squad of Lamar Jackson (averaging 24.83 points through two weeks), Zay Flowers (averaging 18) and Jameson Williams (averaging 11.2). Fortunately for Ryan, only Lamar Jackson felt the need to play last night and he was able to hang on for his second win of the year. Making this the first time Ryan has had two or more wins heading into week 4!
Fear Itself 121.72 over Ferocious Felines 110.12
Fred had a 2.6 point lead going into Monday night. Nathan had Jahmyr Gibbs left, Fred had Derrick Henry. It was the old guard vs the new guard in a winner takes all fight. Gibbs wasn’t efficient, but he punched in two scores and caught more passes than Henry. Meanwhile, Henry lost yet another fumble and didn’t really see the ball again after that. Game. Set. Match.
Storm Surge 95.32 over NUKEM 93.98
This game got a breath of life for Rob when Tyrone Tracy went down with an injury Sunday night opening the door for Cam Skattebo! His 21.1 points led NUKEM and gave Jake Bates a chance at bringing home the win on Monday night. Unfortunately, Bates wasn’t able to get the job done. Speaking of injuries leading to a rookies best game to date, Omarion Hampton got a huge boost after the Najee Harris injury, his 21.9 points outperformed everyone in this matchup! This game combined for the fifth lowest point total in the new scoring system, giving this series two matchups in the top 5 of that category (week 6 last year was the lowest).
Bolt Battalion 106.22 over Shadow Legion 85.74
The battle of the newbies did not have much for fireworks. Matthew’s Bolt Battalion just starved out Anthony’s Shadow Legion, and forced them to cede their city, in a battle history probably won’t remember. James Cook is still red-hot though, and that #1 pick from the expansion draft, Nico Collins (18.4) finally showed up in a big way! Anthony, you know it’s not a good week when your Kicker and Defense combine for nearly 40% of your total score, and that CeeDee Lamb injury is not going to help matters.
Kade’s Dawgs 165.56 over ay_Bilat 98.36
Holy U-turn Batman! Curt went from lowest score produced in the new scoring system to highest score we’ve seen in this young season, and fourth highest in league history. I guess he was just saving it so he could surprise Trey. Trey, I’m thinking Joel should probably hold off on ordering you that ring, wouldn’t want to jump the gun would we?
Here’s a look ahead at next week:
A couple of interesting notes for the remaining undefeated teams. First, the longest win streak to open a season was 7 (2022 by Nathan), the shortest was 3 (2023 by Trey). And second, the team that has stayed undefeated the longest to open a season has won the championship in 4 out of the 6 seasons. Trey’s 2023 squad, and 2020 squad (4 wins to open that season) were the only ones that didn’t. Those were also the only two seasons that a team didn’t start the year with at least 5 straight wins.
Fear Itself (3-0) vs ay_Bilat (2-1)
Nathan leads the series 5-3. These two are long time heads of the league, first time divisional foes. This is also a rematch of the 2022 championship, in which Nathan became the first and only two time league champ, while preventing Trey from attaining that title.
Michael Style (3-0) vs Storm Surge (1-2)
Joel leads the series 1-0. These two met in week 1 of last season and haven’t seen each other since. Joel was thrilled to open the year with a win against the then reigning champ. Can Alex exact a little revenge against the current reigning champ?
Bolt Battalion (2-1) vs Ferocious Felines (1-2)
First time matchup against each other in this league, but these two know each other well outside of this league. Matthew, here’s some info on Fred. His win percentage is at .500 despite having only missed the playoffs one time. He’s never finished a regular season with more than 8 wins. And he’s the only team in league history to win a championship as anything other than a 1 or 2 seed (he did it as a 6 seed).
Fantasy Fairies (2-1) vs Space Rangers (1-2)
We are tied 3-3. The first year Ryan was in the league I swept him 2-0, the next year he swept me 2-0, and last year we split 1-1, with me being his only win of the season. Hard not to take that personally.
The Empire (1-2) vs Shadow Legion (1-2)
First time meeting, so here’s some info on Bryar for you Anthony. He sometimes sucks at this, and sometimes doesn’t. In years 1, 2, and 6, he was top three in record and points. In years 3, 4, and 5, he was bottom three in both categories (except points in year four, he was bottom 4). No titles to speak of, though he did lose it last year. He also likes Doritos, losing at Disc Golf, and long walks on the beach.
Kade’s Dawgs (1-2) vs NUKEM (0-3)
This series is split 4-4. The only real impactful game this series has seen was the divisional round of the 2020 playoffs, where Rob beat Curt and eventually went on to lose in the championship. For the 2022 season they did play in week 14, and Rob’s win handed him the 3 seed and dropped Curt to the 5 seed. But Rob ended up losing in the first round of the playoffs because of that. Whereas, had he lost to Curt in week 14, he would’ve been the 5 seed and would’ve won, and Curt would’ve lost to Fred. So the wrong kind of impactful.
As promised, it’s time for…FUN STATS WITH LANCE!
-Teams that have started a season 3-0 have never missed the playoffs (11 for 11). Congrats Alex and Nathan.
-Teams that have started 2-1 have made the playoffs 75% of the time (15 for 20). ONE 2-1 team has missed the playoffs in every season except 2023 when all three (Nathan, Curt and me) made it. Mostly good news Trey, Ryan and Matthew.
-Teams that have started 1-2 have made the playoffs 47.1% of the time (8 for 17). At least one 1-2 team has made it in every season except one (2021). Good luck Fred, Joel, Bryar, Curt, Anthony and me.
-Teams that have started 0-3 have made the playoffs a mere 16.7% of the time (2 for 12). At least that number isn’t 0, so kind of good news Rob?
NOW FROM A TEAM PERSPECTIVE:
-The only time Nathan has missed the playoffs is the year he started out 1-2, which makes him 5 for 5 when starting 2-1 or better.
-Alex is 1 for 2 when starting out 2-1, he’s never started 3-0. And for those wondering, Alex is one of the two coaches (Ben being the other) to start a season 0-3 and make the playoffs.
-Trey missed the playoffs for the first time last season and he started out 2-1, which puts him at 1 for 2 at that record, he started out 3-0 the other four times.
-Bryar is 3 for 3 when starting out a season at 2-1 or better, he’s 0 for 3 when starting out 1-2.
-Fred finally missed the playoffs last year after starting out 1-2; however, the other three times he started out 1-2 he made the playoffs, sooo… He’s 2 for 2 for when starting out 2-1, and he’s one of just two coaches (that have been in the league longer than one season) to have never started 0-3 or 3-0, with Curt being the other.
-I have made the playoffs 4 out of 4 times when starting the season 1-2 or 2-1 (2 each), the two years I missed I started out 0-3.
-Ryan has started the season 0-3 twice, and 1-2 once, and he’s never made the playoffs, can he do it after starting 2-1?
-Rob is the only coach to have started a season with every one of the variations, and there’s a clear split, he is 0 for 3 when starting out 1-2 or worse, and he is 3 for 3 when starting out 2-1 or better.
-Curt’s never missed the playoffs. He’s started 1-2 twice, and 2-1 four times.
-UNCHARTED TERRITORY, obviously, for Anthony and Matthew, plus Joel has only been here for one season and he started out 3-0, so we’ll see how each of them handles their situations.
That’s all for this week, good luck to you all in week 4!
