2025 Week 8 Dynasty Recap: A Down Season

2025 Week 8 Dynasty Recap: A Down Season

If it seems like the scoring is lacking this year, that’s because it is. Our league’s average weekly score is down nearly 5 points from last year. We’ve only had ONE team added to the top ten highest scoring performances in league history. We’ve only had ONE matchup added to the top ten highest scoring matchups in league history, and that one ranks 10th. On the flip side, we’ve had SIX games make it onto the top ten lowest scoring matchups in league history, with the Ryan vs Curt matchup this week taking over the top spot on that list. Here are your week 8 results:

The Empire 125.56 over Storm Surge 123.48

This one had heartbreaker written all over it for Bryar. It looked like his team had finally shown up on the same week his opponent wasn’t going to score 120+ points. But then Tucker Kraft had the audacity to break the league points record by a Tight End in a single game on Sunday night. Heading into Monday night, all Pacheco needed for the Storm Surge was 7.9 points, but Washington’s defense came through for The Empire! Storm Surge had a couple of rookies show up for them with the newly acquired Oronde Gadsden posting 16.2, and his second first round pick, Jayden Higgins, putting up 11.4. When things aren’t going well in the win column, you can catch glimmers of hope looking at what the youth are bringing to the table.

ay_Bilat 110.56 over Shadow Legion 94.42

This was looking like it was going to be a very close finish, but the Pittsburgh defense put up a dud on Sunday night (-2), and then Mahomes (21.96) and Kelce (18.9) blew the doors wide open on Monday night. Outside of those two, the stars of this game were Kimani Vidal and Troy Franklin. And in case you’re brain said “who?” That is Vidal the fill-in Running Back for the Chargers, and Troy Franklin the second year wide receiver for the Broncos who is quietly having a pretty decent sophomore season.

Ferocious Felines 123.58 over NUKEM 104.62

Mayfield had his worst game in forever, but that didn’t slow down the Felines, as the King Henry engine came back to life and powered them to the win. Bucky Irving was a welcome return too…oh wait, that was Sean Tucker in the Bucs uniform putting up double digit points for the Felines, my bad. I’d list out everyone else who went for 10+ for Fred’s team, but I fear I might run out of room. The NUKEM Running Back curse continued this week. Promising rookie back, Cam Skattebo, who’s toes were touching the back of his leg Sunday, had his season brought to an end. I’d say there’s plenty of other backs in the sea, but that’s just not true. If anyone has a Running Back on their team who plays for a rival of your favorite NFL team, trade him to Rob, he’ll almost certainly get hurt!

Bolt Battalion 127.58 over Space Rangers 108.54

Your team feeling down? Unable to score a lot of points? Seeing star players hit a stagnant stretch? Have I got the remedy for you! Face the Space Rangers, and you’ll see your team rebound better than Wilt Chamberlain. Matthew’s team hadn’t cracked 100 points since week 4, they had their third best performance of the season in this one. James Cook hadn’t even scored double-digits in his last two games, he put up his season best with 33.6. Saquon Barkley hadn’t scored more than 16.4 points in a game this year, and he posted 31.4 all before the end of the third quarter! Meanwhile, Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier had the easiest rushing matchup of their lives and they combined for less than 13 points. On the bright side, I remained one of two teams with 100+ points in every game so far this season (Michael Style is the other). I owe a big thanks to Tampa’s defense for that, or should I say thank you to Spencer Rattler?

Fantasy Fairies 97.26 over Kade’s Dawgs 69.82

RYAN HAS TAKEN DOWN CURT!! The worst 0-for record in the league has been broken! That new title still belongs to Ryan who is 0-5 against Trey, but we’ll get to that at the end of the season. For now, revel in that 6-2 start! Curt, the highs and lows have got to be killing you. There’s hope for next week though…

Michael Style 153.76 over Fear Itself 88.92

Who’s that on top for Michael Style? NO WAY! It’s Jonathan Taylor!! I am shocked. He’s also your Player of the Week, making him the first repeat PotW of this season. In other news, RJ Harvey also exploded, it was against the Dallas defense though, so take it with a grain of salt for now. Nathan, this was a bad one for you. Just blame it on the bye weeks. At least Allen got back to 20+ for the first time since week 4, and Rice built off his return from last week.

Tie breakers for non-playoff teams will be determined by regular season head-to-head results, with the loser getting the better pick. In the event of a three-way tie, or an instance of an even 1-1 split on the season, the tie breaker will be points scored, with the team who had the least points scored getting the better pick.

Here’s a look ahead at RIVALRY week:

Michael Style (7-1) vs ay_Bilat (7-1)

Seemed like a weird matchup to have for rivalry week back when I was setting it, but I work with what I got and it ended up working out great. These to are old West division rivals, with Trey currently up 8-6. They battled it out for the division title in 2023, which Alex won, and that season ended for Trey when Alex put him out in the second round of the playoffs.

Fantasy Fairies (6-2) vs NUKEM (2-6)

This one was really strange, sorry guys, I do want to tinker with the schedule in the future and see if I can figure out a way to make a true rivalry week work. Rob leads this series 3-2. Ryan is currently on a 3 game win streak, if the Fairies pull this one off they’ll set a new longest win streak for their team history.

Fear Itself (4-4) vs Bolt Battalion (4-4)

These two old friends go all the way back to their Emmanuel Baptist Church days! Plenty of matchups on the Ultimate frisbee field, and for the first time in this dynasty league they will bring that rivalry to the arm chair. Nathan’s the only two time champ in the league, and he’s now staring down the barrel of the first losing record he’s held since year 1. And I don’t mean losing record at the end of the season, I mean losing record in general. The closest he’s gotten was 1-1 at the start of the 2023 season, the 3-3 record he was at after week 6 this year, and the 4-4 record he sits at right now.

Shadow Legion (4-4) vs Storm Surge (3-5)

It’s the student versus the teacher, the padawan versus the master, the mentee versus the mentor. Anthony, you already know how last season went for Storm Surge cause you lived it. Now’s your chance to prove you can take the old man down.

Ferocious Felines (4-4) vs The Empire (2-6)

This one also began as an old West division rivalry, but I was expecting better optics for both teams coming into the week. The series is tied 6-6. Although, this might be the biggest matchup the two have played against each other. Bryar is fighting to get back into contention for his division. Fred is fighting to keep control over a wildcard spot. Who will come out victorious?

Space Rangers (3-5) vs Kade’s Dawgs (2-6)

This one goes a ways back too. All the way to 2002 when I first entered the fantasy football arena. The Dawgs versus the Giant Killer. No giants to slay this week, unless that 150+ point team decides to show up again. I lead the series 8-6 in this league. I would need some assistance from my dad if I was going to figure out what the record is going all the way back.

That’s all for this week, good luck to you all in week 9!
