Dynasty League 2022: Post-Draft Analysis

As usual let me start off by pointing out that what you will find below are my opinions, so don't take them to heart, because I’m far from 100% right, just ask Rebekah. What you will see is which pick from each team intrigued me the most and a brief analysis on that pick, or the team's draft as a whole, or maybe their season outlook because of the draft....who knows what my brain will come up with as I write, I certainly don't.

Ryan

Most Intriguing Pick: WR Gabriel Davis (Buffalo)

Analysis: A lot of Ryan's draft was a trade that he agreed to (and Cody executed for him) with me last year. In that trade he got Elijah Mitchell, Michael Thomas, Amari Cooper and my third round pick which he used on Gabriel Davis. Mitchell, Thomas and Cooper figure to be regular starters in his lineup. Davis is an intriguing, up and coming third-year Receiver who appears ready for a breakout season. Between that trade and his first draft pick in this draft (Allen Robinson), Ryan looks ready to push the Fantasy Fairies/Pretty Ponies/Benny's Beasts into the playoffs for the first time since year one.

Simon

Most Intriguing Pick: TE David Njoku (Cleveland)

Analysis: Simon clearly seems fed up with the rotating door he's had at the Tight End position, as evidence by him drafting three Tight Ends. Okwuegbunam was the first one he selected and seems likely to break out, but I wouldn't count out Njoku. Most Tight Ends struggle when they enter the NFL and don't find their footing until their second contract, which usually ends up being with a different team. The Browns ended up bringing Njoku back on his second contract, so he at least gets to stay in the same system, and it looks as though he'll get Watson as his starting QB before the end of the year. Also worth noting that part of Simon's draft was receiving Aaron Rodgers and Stefon Diggs who add an additional 100 points combined over what Jimmy G and Michael Pittman did for him last year.

Lance

Most Intriguing Pick: RB Zamir White (Las Vegas)

Analysis: I'm really excited for what Kenneth Walker and Garrett Wilson can do for my team this year. But what intrigues me most is the impact Zamir White could have next season when Josh Jacobs is a free agent and likely on his way elsewhere, maybe even this season if Josh McDaniels uses him alongside Jacobs in a backfield committee like he's run with basically every backfield he's ever overseen.

Bryar

Most Intriguing Pick: LB Devin Lloyd (Jacksonville)

Analysis: His offensive draft was interesting, the addition of James Cook to a backfield that already features Dalvin Cook and Antonio Gibson has the makings of a future top RB/RB/RB trio. Winston gives him an insurance policy for Russell Wilson, one that can light up the scoreboard, which he desperately missed last year. And my feelings on Jameson Williams have been pretty clear (I don't think he's going to pan out). The most intriguing pick he made though was in the defensive draft with Devin Lloyd. Lloyd was viewed by many to be the top Linebacker in the 2022 NFL draft and has the potential to be one of the top performing fantasy Linebackers in a few years.

Alex

Most Intriguing Pick: DL Kayvon Thibodeaux (NY Giants)

Analysis: As far as his offensive draft goes Breece Hall was a no brainer at 2, I think Burks has a high chance of being a bust, and I like the Wan'Dale Robinson pick, but more in the future outlook aspect. But Thibodeaux in the defensive draft was his most intriguing pick because he's a rookie and he was the first DL Alex drafted. He has the talent and athleticism to excel, the question is can he have an immediate impact as a rookie for Michael Style?

Curt

Most Intriguing Pick: QB Deshaun Watson (Cleveland)

Analysis: I was wondering if someone would draft Watson and if so, when they would pull the trigger. From a football and fantasy standpoint he's very talented and he'll get you a lot of points. And I don't really need to cover his off-field circumstances for you to understand the other side of that coin. Curt's biggest weakness was at QB and when Pickett went at the end of the first round it was pretty obvious that Watson was his best option. Side note, love the Olave pick, I think he could have the best rookie season of all the Receivers that came out this year, but I'm curious how often he'll get in Curt's starting lineup with Kupp, Evans, McLaurin, Diontae Johnson and Devonta Smith also on the roster.

Fred

Most Intriguing Pick: RB Rachaad White (Tampa Bay)

Analysis: Skyy Moore was a fantastic pick in the first round, but White was the steal of the draft. I viewed Rachaad White as a late-first round pick for a RB needy team. He's not going to be the RB1 in Tampa with Fournette around, but all the preseason talk has been about his pass catching ability and how he figures to eat into Fournette's touches early on.

Trey

Most Intriguing Pick: LB Nakobe Dean (Philadelphia)

Analysis: Dean was a first-round talent (in the NFL draft) who went tumbling because of size/injury concerns. Word on the street is he's healthy. Having seen him play I can attest to the kind of monster he is on the field, and Philly's been desperate for Linebacker help for years now. He was the third Linebacker that Trey took, but Owusu-Koramoah and Simmons are both younger talents that are still finding their footing, so Dean does have a potential way in to Trey's starting lineup. Also, I wasn't a big fan of his offensive draft, I had London and Pickens both removed from my draft board.

Rob

Most Intriguing Pick: DL Gregory Rousseau (Buffalo)

Analysis: I liked Pastor Dad's offensive draft. There wasn't anything over the top, it was just solid. Dameon Pierce should see plenty of work in Houston and really only needs to be available a couple times this season to cover bye weeks, barring injuries of course. I have high hopes for McBride, but he only needs him for Andrews' bye week. And Christian Watson will have a lot of potential in an explosive Green Bay offense provided he can prove himself in the preseason. But the biggest thing is none of them should play a major factor in Pastor Dad's already set offense. Defensively though Rousseau is very intriguing. He had a promising rookie season for Buffalo last year and I've seen him listed on a few breakout candidate lists. If that ends up being the case Pastor Dad will have a young DL pass rusher to go with the NFL's most dominant LB pass rusher in T.J. Watt.

Nathan

Most Intriguing Pick: WR Romeo Doubs (Green Bay)

Analysis: LOVED the Doubs pick, was mad that Nathan took him. I was hoping he'd slide through the draft, so when I stuck Gallup in my IR slot I could go snag him. Based on Nathan's comment at the end of the offensive draft that was clearly never going to be the case. Pickett in the first was interesting, but he should only end up being the QB2 on Fear Itself while Josh Allen pushes for another league MVP award. And I understood the Allen Lazard pick, but personally I think Doubs is going to end up being Green Bay's WR1 and when Watson gets going I think he'll end up outplaying Lazard and taking over the WR2 role.

As you already know I don't give out grades, but I do like to speculate on who I think had the best draft. If I were to give that achievement to anyone this year it would be Fred. I like the Skyy Moore pick, he stole Rachaad White in the third round, and he had a very good defensive draft with Bosa and Kenny Moore joining Darius Leonard in the starting unit and Chandler Jones being a swing LB/DL player. Thank you all for another amazing draft and I wish you all the best this season!
