Lance's 2021 Week 12 Recap and Week 13 Waiver Priorities
RECAP
-I’m surprised Chicago didn’t fire Nagy even after winning, that was ugly and basically just a culmination of how this season has gone.
-Impressive win by the Raiders, but more so a very troubling loss for the Cowboys. Dallas needs to figure out how to get both sides of the ball to work well at the same time or else they’re going to find themselves knocked out early in the playoffs.
-Cincinnati once again looks like the best team in the AFC North. I can’t say they look like the best team in the AFC, but they definitely appear to be one of the better teams.
-Miami continues to impress. Four straight wins and they’re now a bubble team. Can they keep it up and do enough to get into the top 7? It’s gonna be tough with about ¾ of the AFC sitting at or above .500.
-This was the Giants defense the coaches were banking on at the start of the year. However, it may have been all Hurts and the defense just took advantage. A troubling reality for an Eagles team that seemed to have turned a corner.
-Indy lost their game because they decided to trust Wentz instead of continuing to do what had been winning them games, relying on Taylor and asking Wentz to do just enough to move the ball.
-Zach Wilson needed to come out and play boring football and for the most part that’s what he did. And you know what? The Jets won. This style is all well and good for opponents like Houston, but if they’re going to hang with the top teams in the league they’ll need Wilson to do more than just the basics.
-I liked that Denver win. Nothing flashy, a couple guys helping out on offense, the defense taking advantage of poor plays when given the chance, and a win against a division rival that keeps them in the race for the AFC West.
-That was an impressive win by Green Bay. The Rams are a better team than what they showed; it just felt like they spent most of the game sleeping.
-Cleveland...Baltimore...all I’m gonna say is man was that ugly.
-That was quite the ending to the Monday night game. Good for Washington, getting themselves to 5-6 and back into the NFC playoff race. But in my opinion, Monday night’s game was further proof that the Seahawks need to do something drastic this offseason.
FANTASY WAIVER WIRE TARGETS
QB: Taysom Hill (New Orleans)
It looks like Hill’s going to get a chance to start this upcoming week. It’s not a great matchup and the Saints aren’t exactly a great team to be starting for at this point, but Hill brings the added running dimension that’s typically a nice boost in fantasy land.
RB: Dontrell Hilliard (Tennessee)
Back to back double digit fantasy performances and he’s looked like the best option in their depleted backfield. That fumble was a little troubling, but the Titans don’t have much of a choice. Bonus: He’s had 9 receptions on 12 targets in his two games.
WR: Josh Reynolds (Detroit)
If you have the luxury of adding a Receiver and stashing him, then you should think about Reynolds. He’s not a guarantee to build off his nice stat line from Thursday night, but it was a very promising performance and he has the rapport with Goff. It would be smart of Detroit to continue to utilize him, but there’s no guarantee they will.
TE: Pat Freiermuth (Pittsburgh) / Logan Thomas (Washington)
At this point most of the guys you should’ve added are already gone. But if somehow Freiermuth or Thomas are still available and you need help, GO GET THEM. It’s too late in the year to be trying to “play the matchups,” go after the guys who are going to get the volume.
K: Matt Gay (LA Rams)
He’s a top ten fantasy Kicker this year, he’s got a golden matchup against the Jags, and likely because his bye week was two weeks ago, he’s only rostered in 58% of Yahoo leagues.
D: New York Jets
Feel like playing Russian roulette this week? The Jets have done a pretty solid job of getting to the Quarterback, especially at home, and this week they’ve got the Eagles at home. Hurts is coming off a three pick game, which is something the Jets could force again if they can get after him in the backfield. Of course there’s always the possibility that he runs all over them and racks up 40 points. So ask yourself, are you feeling lucky?
